The Nash Trash Sisters
Overview/Summary
Nash Trash Tours is a guided and entertainment tour within Nashville, Tennessee. The tour has existed for about 20 years and has gained popularity among Nashville residents who scramble to book the next tour. Those who have been on this tour attest that being on the Big Pink bus is fulfilling and entertaining. In other words, Nash Trash tours offer Nashville residents a unique way of getting entertained as they tour various parts of the city (Jeffrey & Cathelyne, 2013). The Idea of Nash Trash Tours came into existence when the two sisters, Brenda Kay, and Sheri Lyn, thought of a way they could work together and still earn a living. The sisters had worked in the entertainment industry for quite some time and got bored working in different places. Therefore, they decided to come up with the idea of creating an entertainment tour that could enable them to earn a living as well as continue to entertain people (Jeffrey & Cathelyne, 2013). The identity of the Jugg sisters is the “white trash,” a derogatory racial and class-related slur that was used in America to refer to poor white people. The term white trash was common in the Southern part of the United States (RoadsideAmerica.com, 2022). Thus, the two sisters branded themselves to represent the “white trash” by wearing big hair, extreme makeup, and multicolored attire, with pink color being the theme of the tour. In their Big Pink bus, they entertained visitors with their comedy, musical songs, and some history of Nashville.
Questions and Answers
Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Do you think the Jugg Sisters love their jobs? Do you think that the way they make their living seems like “work” to them?
In my opinion, the Jugg sisters greatly love their job. Looking at the period the Nash Trash tours existed, it is easy to conclude that the two sisters enjoyed what they did. The tour has been in Nashville for about 20 years, and it is growing even more popular and fun for residents of Nashville. If this job were neither enjoyable nor fulfilling, the sisters would not have done it for this long. They came together to run the Nash Trash tours because they wanted to be together; hence, working and being together is one thing they enjoyed much (Jeffrey & Cathelyne, 2013). The way the two sisters blended comedy, music, and Nashville history clearly shows how they enjoyed doing it. Besides, the two sisters made a living through their work, which was fully entertaining; hence, they did not experience any work-related stress like in other jobs.
What specific features of the Jugg Sisters’ work environment make it naturally rewarding? What types of feelings do these features create?
Some of the specific features of the Jugg sisters’ work environment include the Big Pinky Bus, a unique old-styled bus that brings some historical memories to folks in Nashville who boarded such busses in the old days. Secondly, the two sisters always dressed in trailer trash outfits and attires that many people knew were out of fashion. The sisters dressed in this way to rekindle the memories of the old-fashioned styles that brought a smile to the audience. The tour itself was so enjoyable because the sisters spiced it up with occasion comedy, music, dance, Nashville gossip, and a bit of history (Jeffrey & Cathelyne, 2013). Another feature is that the people on the bus were allowed to come with their drinks, including alcohol, and thus, enjoyed their drinks as they got entertained on tour. All these features create refreshing and relaxing moments, making the tours fit for a weekend getaway and unwinding from the week’s daily stress.
What self-leadership strategies have the sisters used to make their jobs more naturally rewarding?
Some of the self-leadership strategies that the two sisters employed were, firstly, self-confidence. The two sisters started this show while they were still young; thus, they had to work on their self-confidence to run the show (Sjoblom, K Etal, 2022). Besides, entertaining people through singing, dancing, and storytelling requires someone with self-confidence. The second self-leadership strategy they used is practicing their strengths always for inspiration and confidence (Jeffrey & Cathelyne, 2013). The two sisters pursued their careers separately. However, they realized they could still run entertainment shows together rather than individually. Keeping an open mind is another self-leadership strategy that the two sisters exhibited (RoadsideAmerica.com, 2022). Good leaders are naturally curious and open to ways of doing things. Brenda Kay and Sheri Lyn were open-minded, and this is why they were able to conceive the idea of the Nash Trash tours, something unique to the Nashville people.
Do you think the sisters experience “majestic” moments in their work? Explain.
Yes, the Jug sisters do experience majestic moments in their work. The fact that many Nashville residents jostle for bookings whenever there is a tour is fulfilling to the two sisters. In addition, doing something that many people approve of and love to be part of makes the wormhole work majestic and overwhelming. The sisters experience majestic moments when they are invited to shows on famous media stations such as CNN, CMT, and the Discovery Channel. Also, they did not expect to be invited to such shows when they started the tour; therefore, for them, their dream came true.
Critical Aspects
The critical aspect of the Nash Trash tour is that it is run by two young ladies who have built it from scratch with unique ideas. Secondly, the brand of the Nash Trash Tours itself is unique because its signature refers to the “white trash,” an old derogatory phrase in American history that brings some fun to the clients (RoadsideAmerica.com, 2022). The third critical aspect is that the two sisters are multi-talented in that they can sing, do comedy, and do storytelling. Another critical aspect of the Nash trash tours is that the tour allows the Nashville residents to tour unique corners of the city places they would not have thought of going.
Reflection
Nash Trash Tours is one of the attraction events in Nashville, and thousands of people have once had an experience of this tour. Testimonies from those who have once been on this tour show that it is a great entertainment tour with lots of laughter because of the entertainment, music, and comedy the two sisters present. One important thing I have learned from this tour is that the two sisters are talented and creative. This is why the tour has been here for twenty years now, and still, many people are yearning to have an experience. Brenda and Cheri use their knowledge in the entertainment industry to make the tours more fun, leaving the clients on tour happy and thus spreading the message about the tour to people who have not yet been on it.
The second aspect I have learned from the Nash Trash tours is that opportunities are always there for people who are ready to think with an open mind. The two sisters are open-minded individuals; hence, they managed to come up with the tour, a new event in Nashville. The sisters also combined various aspects such as comedy, music, storytelling, and more to enrich the tour. They explored many ways to make the tour more appealing and blended several ideas and elements that have sustained their tours for a long time. Another thing I have learned about the Nash Trash tours is that one does not need huge resources to create something or develop a project. The Jugg sisters did not have huge money to implement their idea. They used the available resources and local ideas to create something that later went viral and earned them a living. Nash Trash Tours will remain the identity of Nashville City because many people like it and are willing to have a chance to experience it.
