The Heart as An Endocrine Gland

The endocrine system consists of endocrine glands. The endocrine glands secrete hormones that are recognized by receptors on other organs in the body, evoking a response. The endocrine system is, therefore, a feedback loop in the body. There are various reasons the heart is considered an endocrine gland. First, the atrial cardiomyocytes partially display the phenotype of the endocrine cells. Secondly, polypeptides such as atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) and the brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), a hormone produced by the heart atria found in the brain, contribute to this concept (Ogawa and de Bold, 2014). The BNP indicates the mind and heart interaction, a concept a practitioner can explain to a client.

The neurofeedback indicates mind and heart interaction. The brain and heart interaction must be coherent for an optimum health state. Endocrine glands communicate to the brain. Additionally, the endocrine glands are associated with all chakras in the body, including the heart chakra (Goswami, 2011). Accordingly, via the autonomic nervous system and the psychoneuroimmunological connection between the mind and endocrine glands, including the heart, vital energies are controlled by the mind (Goswami, 2011).

A practitioner can explain the concept of the heart as an endocrine gland using the aforementioned description. Consistently, a practitioner can explain to a client that the heart is an endocrine gland because each chakra is connected to an endocrine gland. The heart chakra is consequently connected to the heart, thus, the endocrine gland. The chakras are parts where the vital energy is felt dominantly. The vital energy is controlled by the mind, which interacts with the organs associated with the chakras.

Therefore, a practitioner can explain the concept of a heart as an endocrine gland using chakras. The relationship between various chakras organs, and vital energy will create a basis that a client can understand. Therefore, this explanation will elaborate on the association between the brain and the heart as an endocrine gland.
