The Harps Call- Exploring My Passion for the Instrument
Video 1
Playing the harp is a mesmerizing experience that draws me in for several reasons. Firstly, the harp’s ethereal sound captivates me; its gentle yet powerful resonance creates an atmosphere that feels both calming and uplifting. The way the musician in the Minnesota Orchestra Harp Demonstration effortlessly plucks the strings, coaxing out those beautiful, cascading notes, (Minnesota Orchestra, 2019) inspires me. The harp’s versatility also appeals to me greatly. It can traverse various musical genres, from classical to contemporary, making it a versatile instrument that offers immense creative potential. Its ability to evoke emotions and transport listeners to different mental spaces is simply unparalleled.

The second video featuring Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten showcases a different musical experience that taps into a diverse range of emotions (Wortman, 2017). Their performance, infused with complex rhythms and improvisations, creates an electrifying and joyful atmosphere. The music feels vibrant, dynamic, and technically impressive. It elicits feelings of excitement, energy, and admiration for the musicians’ skill and synergy. The collaboration between Fleck and Wooten is enthralling; how they communicate through their instruments seems almost telepathic. This kind of music invigorates me, sparks creativity, and makes me want to explore various musical avenues.

Second Assignment
After reading the article on integrating music into classroom setups, I see three effective ways to incorporate music into the learning environment (Dorman & Alvarez, 1990). Firstly, setting up a dedicated music center, as it allows for hands-on exploration with various instruments, encouraging children to discover sounds and rhythms independently. Second, incorporating music into daily routines, much like the examples provided in the article, can facilitate smoother transitions and create a more engaging atmosphere. Morning circle songs, background music during activities, or musical cues for different tasks can enhance the learning experience. Lastly, integrating music into thematic learning, where subjects like history or geography are taught through music, can make lessons more immersive and memorable for students. This could involve exploring cultural music and historical periods through musical compositions or even creating songs to remember concepts.
