Greetings

What is HLS strategy: Homeland security is a term used in the American national security system, which refers to the collective national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the U.S. Homeland security seeks to minimize the vulnerability of the U.S to terrorism and reduce damages from the attacks if they occur. The homeland security strategy is the collective action of local, regional, and state homeland security professionals towards mitigating security threats (Council of State Governments, 2006). The collaborative effort of all the security departments is to create synergy o the security forces to handle any security threat, especially terrorist threats.

How is HLS strategy related to critical mission areas: The homeland security strategy is closely related to the critical mission areas because they are more like the homeland security goals. Homeland mission areas include; prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery. Homeland security aims at preventing hazards and stopping imminent threats of terrorist acts. Homeland Security seeks to protect people and national assets against threats and dangers to allow life to thrive (Homeland Security, 2017). Through homeland security strategy, the security system aims to mitigate or put in place some measures that help prevent and neutralize hazards. The security system also aims to prepare itself for future hazards so that it can respond effectively in case of an occurrence (Council of State Governments, 2006).  Lastly, the homeland security system has put in place some recovery mechanisms that help recover when a hazard occurs. Therefore, homeland security strategy is intertwined with mission areas.

How are critical mission areas related to the 9/11 attacks: The critical mission areas are quite relevant to the 9/11 attacks since they address such occurrences. The critical mission area is the homeland security systems’ actions to prevent, mitigate, and handle when such circumstances occur. The essential areas of mission emerged after the 9/11 attacks when President Bush called for a national collaboration with local, regional, and state security agencies to prevent and handle such occurrences (Homeland Security, 2017). It is unfortunate that many people lost their lives and property because the Homeland Security collective action was not in place during the attack (Homeland Security, 2017). However, it is believed that with the presence of a homeland security strategy in place, it will be easier to prevent or handle such unfortunate happenings and save lives and property.
