Technology and Nursing Education

There have been several alterations in technology and nursing education in the last decade, but the objective to provide quality care has remained unchanged. Nursing has not been exempted from the recent evolution of technology, which continues to impact sectors uniquely (Mohammed et al., 2019). For instance, I have witnessed a significant focus on mobile monitoring devices, mobile apps, and wearables, with the entire industry shifting its dependency on primary digital tools. University education has also been utterly influenced by changing demands in the field in the last three years. For instance, I have observed the recent trend in offering flexible online programs, which accredited institutions leverage to accommodate industry changes. The transformation has made the programs easily accessible for nurses, students, and interns who have long shifts and irregular working hours. Many learning programs are gradually integrating support tools for online students, including fewer log-in times, clinical placement assistance, and adaptable online formats. Overall, university and college nursing education are likely to witness further changes in the next few years to meet diverse industry needs.

Besides enhancing flexibility, the contemporary nurse must learn numerous skills and experiences required to implement new technology interventions. In the last three years, the learning curve has been relatively steep, but tech advancements ultimately provide more reliable tools for improving client outcomes. Nursing students have been challenged in the last three years to leverage technological communication changes (Rouleau et al., 2017). One needs to be well-versed in obtaining data and transferring the data appropriately. In truth, the technology influx can potentially create an overwhelming healthcare environment, but recent changes in nursing technology will ultimately make it easier for nursing practitioners.
