Sustainable Development Goal and Mobile App Requirements Outline

Sustainable Development Goal and Mobile App Requirements Outline

Part 1 – Choosing a Sustainable Development Goal

One of the sustainable development goals that I intend to promote is the second goal of ending hunger in all its forms by 2030 through the attainment of food security. The primary aim of this SDG is that the entire globe should have access to nutritious food together with the widespread promotion of sustainable agriculture. This would only be possible through improved productivity and increasing the incomes of small-scale farmers by promoting equal access to land, technology, and markets and adopting resilient agricultural practices (Mio et al., 2020). This goal also calls upon the increase in investments through international cooperation to enhance the productive capacity of agriculture within third-world countries. Significant progress has been realized regarding the fight against hunger within the last 15 years. The progress is pegged on the current population of undernourished individuals (Mio et al., 2020). For instance, the undernourished population decreased globally from 15% between 2000 and 2002 to 11% between 2014 and 2016 (Mio et al., 2020).

Despite realizing this milestone, over 700 million globally still need access to adequate food. It is feared that if the current trend continues, the 2030 target will be greatly missed. Addressing the second sustainable development goal of achieving zero hunger is essential because it can easily be attained by adopting various measures (Mio et al., 2020). For instance, one of the measures towards attaining zero hunger is by shopping locally and during the right season.

Purchasing food products during harvesting helps cushion people against the food shortage problem. Furthermore, people should also learn the art of reducing food wastage by freezing extra produce and saving the leftovers from meals. According to the statistics released by Feeding America, U.S. citizens have been realized to waste about 108 billion pounds of food annually, equivalent to 130 billion discarded meals (Mio et al., 2020). Lastly, people should reduce their meat consumption since approximately 80% of deforestation is brought about by cattle ranching. People embracing a single day of vegetarianism will preserve nearly 3 million acres of land (Mio et al., 2020).

Part 2 – Mobile App Requirements Outline

The product requirements document is a document that exhaustively enumerates the value and purpose of a mobile app towards the development of a product. This document offers a strong foundation for a successful product by listing technical specifications, outlining business logic, and aiding the development team in transforming the concept into a functional app. For this case, the app being developed explains how the second SDG goal could be attained.

Mobile App Objectives

I want the mobile app to inform American citizens whether they are at risk of being struck by hunger. The app should be able to assess the condition of household occupants and the available supply of foodstuffs. As such, the core problem that the app seeks to unravel is to inform people whether they are in danger of running out of food supply shortly by tabling precise figures.

User Journeys

The second stage of the product requirements document entails incorporating the user flow of this app for every type of user. Some of the users I will integrate into the user journeys include regular users, guest users, and admins (Francese et al., 2017). In this user journey, I will elaborate on how every user will interact with the app from the beginning to the end. Since generating user journeys is a collaborative process, I would include various professionals, including but not limited to developers, user experience designers, business analysts, and product managers (Francese et al., 2017). These user journeys are essential because they aid in communicating all the possibilities within the app from the user’s perspective, hence necessitating refining the app’s functionality.

Product Vision Statement

A vision statement outlines the path to achieving the end goal within the mobile app. Furthermore, the vision statement also describes the solution to the problem being experienced by the users. The vision statement for this case would be developing an application for American citizens to unravel the risks they face regarding food security, assessing the number of occupants in a household and the food available for use.

List of Features

The best version of the mobile app is that it offers a simple and intuitive user experience. This experience can only be attained by settling on standardized features within the app. Some of the features that I would consider to include within this app would be;

Monetization Model

The monetization strategy to settle on depends on the type of app being developed, the target user, and the mobile operating system that would be utilized in the application (Francese et al., 2017). The monetization model I would settle on for this app would be the pay-per-download model. Since the app would specialize in hunger management, I will be better placed to get decent effective rates even though I may need help to get the required volume of customers.

Product and Technical Specifications

This step of the app development process brings to light the systemic and functional needs required to meet and achieve zero hunger as the end objective. The application will run on an Android platform because it has the most users. The app will function for six consecutive months before being exposed to an overhaul. The current services being offered to citizens include accessing the prices of commodities in various markets, fluctuating prices for food products, and needing a support team to resolve any technical errors that may arise while using the laptop.

Selecting the right platform

The ideal approach to launching this application would be doing so on both platforms. However, this is not feasible, prompting the app’s development on one platform first and then introducing it to the second platform later. Some factors for the variation between the launching of the first and the second platform include limited financial resources, time constraints, and resource limitations (Francese et al., 2017). Even though I had decided that the app would run on an Android platform, I will follow this up with a second launch on the iOS platform to ensure that a more significant percentage of users is utilizing it.

Maintenance and Upgrade Requirements

The project does not end after the launch. On the contrary, I will set out to plan for the cost of maintaining the app by fixing any upcoming bugs and meeting any system upgrade requirements. My product requirements document will include a long-term product vision encompassing product improvements, user demands, and new features for future iterations (Francese et al., 2017).

Dependencies

Dependencies refer to any aspect the product team utilizes to meet the set objectives. Some of these dependencies include API documentation, the hardware the app will run on, the software that the app will rely on, and the profile page.

Assumptions

This relates to how the product team suspects the users will behave in their interaction with the application. Nevertheless, it is also significant to integrate assumptions that evolve around the organization and the technical aspects of the product within this section (Francese et al., 2017). An example of an assumption includes a statement like; we can develop the application within three months.

Constraints

These are limitations that the team must work around, and they primarily relate to scope, time, and budget. Furthermore, constraints may include issues such as quality requirements, employee problems, or risk tolerance related to food security.

Submission

I will ensure that the mobile app requirements document comprises the technical assets and information outlined in Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store submission. Some assets that should be included in the app requirements document include app descriptions, search keywords, support URLs, Marketing URLs, and copyright information (Francese et al., 2017).

How the Mobile App Can Drive Business Results and Create a Competitive Advantage for the Organization.

Utilizing the mobile app helps drive business results and create a competitive advantage for the organization. Business results are driven within the organization by creating a unique value proposition. Being familiarized with the nitty gritty of the unique value proposition goes a long way in matching an organization’s competitive intentions (Tang, 2016). Businesses can outdo their competitors through a mobile app by briefly focusing on the main points presented by customers and addressing these issues on a case basis (Tang, 2016). Furthermore, assuring the users that their data is safe enables businesses to go a long way in outdoing their competition. Providing full-proof security for confidential customer data is an effective way of dominating competitors through the mobile app.

The Importance of the Business App

This business app is a better alternative to other tools like websites because it necessitates suitable keyword identification, optimization of the success strategy, and fostering accessibility to the audience. Professionals engaged in the development of mobile apps always ensure that they select the right keywords that would necessitate the appearance of the app at the top of search results among different app stores (Tang, 2016). This makes the app to be easily visible among millions of business apps. The success strategy is optimized through a broad customer reach, ultimate brand recognition, and promptly addressing issues brought forth by customers (Tang, 2016). Lastly, the business app will quickly find its way to the audience, especially if the target audience feels secure and confident while interacting with others on this platform.

Importance of a Business being a Force to Help Communities Prosper

A business can only be a force for good in helping communities prosper through choosing green, asset allocation, and risk management practices. The pollution in our environment calls for businesses to go green. A recent study has revealed that every $1 million spent on renewable energy and exports will create 4.8 million full-time jobs in renewable infrastructure and 4.95 million jobs in energy efficiency (Tang, 2016). Organizations would acquire some of the essential tools to aid communities’ prospering landscape and jurisdictional approaches, nature-related financial disclosures, and science-based targets (Tang, 2016). Responsible production would be guaranteed by adopting landscape approaches, while nature-related financial disclosure would foster the proper shaping of nature-positive investments and economies.

Tenets of Servant Leadership and Conscious Capitalism

The four principles of conscious capitalism are conscious leadership, stakeholder orientation, conscious culture, and higher purpose. Under the principle of conscious leadership, the leader at the top is a mirror in action and personality to others. In this sense, the leader can only influence their perception of the need to adopt a mobile app project by considering their needs before their ambitions (Daniels, 2021). This inspires loyalty within the organization and consistently high performance.

Servant leadership is also evidenced under the stakeholder orientation principle, which outlines the success factors as being customers, employees, vendors, and the community. In this regard, the leader should take of the needs of these stakeholders, who will end up taking care of his needs (Daniels, 2021). Thirdly, under the conscious culture, the leader is more than ready to lose his job at the mercy of the staff’s job when the economy is not doing well. The leader harbors a strong sense of salary deduction (Daniels, 2021). Finally, the higher purpose principle entails leaders realizing that they must offer actual value to succeed in the long run.
