Suicide Among Youths
The cases of suicide among the youth today have increased. About 15 youths out of 24 die from suicide, and almost 20 percent of the same group have suicide ideation, while 9 percent have attempted suicide (Bilsen, 2018). Thus, the case of suicide among the youth is a serious case and is of interest to me because of the worrying statistics. Most importantly, it is a case of interest because the youth are expected to be the next generation. If society is losing the upcoming generation, there may be no future. Most importantly, this is an issue that psychologists should also look into because, today, several changes have emerged in society, especially with the advent and advancement of the internet. Therefore, experts in the field need to examine and identify if some emerging changes are responsible for increasing suicide among the youth, specifically school-going youth aged not more than 15 years.
I believe this study area will fit well within the methods that promote research because the study will fit perfectly within clinical and social psychology research. In the area of clinical psychology, experts would want to find out many other ways that can be employed to minimize suicide ideation among the youth and thus control the rate of suicide among this group (Newman, 2016). Social psychologists, on the other hand, will be interested in examining some of the social issues in society that are contributing to the increased cases of suicide among the youth. It should be remembered that social psychologists deal with social interactions (Newman, 2016). I believe that a study in this area should help give a more profound understanding of issues surrounding suicide among the youth, and it will also contribute to a better understanding of how to tackle this issue.
