Strategic Plan Research-Amazons strategic plan

Clearly states where the organization is going and how it will get there

Amazon’s strategic plan clearly states where the organization is going and how it will get there through its vision and mission. The vision statement is outlined to become the most centric company on earth where clients can discover and find anything they might want to purchase online. The vision statement is outlined as becoming the best e-commerce company in the world. The company, therefore, focuses on attaining the desired future by expanding global reach, using a client-centric approach, and manufacturing a wide range of products (Gregory,2019). Global reach extends to global dominance and leadership in the e-commerce marketplace. The company considers clients to be among the essential stakeholders in the e-commerce business. The company’s vision demonstrates its ongoing efforts to expand its product mix.

Evaluating the organization’s external and internal environments

The strategic plan provides an analysis of the company’s internal environment using a SWOT analysis. The strengths are identified as having a strong brand name, being able to expand its diversification, and having a higher ability for technology innovation, particularly in e-commerce services. The weaknesses are identified as having an easily copied business model, limited presence in emerging markets, and limited presence of physical stores. The threats are aggressive competition with other companies and cybercrime. At the same time, the opportunities are new strategic alliances and collaborations with other companies, particularly in emerging markets, expansion in emerging markets, and the expansion of physical store business operations. An overview of the company’s external environment is also provided using PESTEL analysis. Economic and political factors favour the business because political and economic stability create a conducive environment for business operations. There is an increase in disposable income in emerging nations and governmental support for online retailers. The factors that could limit the company’s growth are growing inequality in wealth and an increase in cybercrime rates.

Includes a people plan and addresses the achievement of a diverse workforce

Amazon’s strategic plan includes a people plan to depict the expansion of the workplace to include diverse races, religions, and cultures. The company plans on promoting inclusion and developing a corporate culture that embraces diversity (Gregory,2019). The company also has an Equity team in charge of ensuring equality in the workplace. The company also has ten affinity groups that are referred to as employee resource groups.

Includes corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability

The strategic plan also highlights the company’s social responsibility and environmental stability. It indicates that the company has invested in sustainability by attaining zero carbon emissions by 2040 and ensuring that all production is done using renewable energy by 2025(Smith et al.,2017). The company also intends to invest $100 million in replanting trees globally. The company has also initiated a pledge fund for climate improvement. The company supports local communities through its Relief Fund with the first contribution of $25 million to support the autonomous delivery service associates as well as other stakeholders to deal with the current COVID-19 pandemic. The company also educates and empowers workers through the Amazon Career Choice Program which provides a 95% pre-payment of the tuition fees for employees to study nursing or airplane mechanics irrespective of whether the skills are applicable to a job at the company. In the plan to create environmental sustainability, the company has begun a Packaging-Free program in various cities. The company is also part of the Better Cotton Initiative, which emphasizes enhancing the sustainability of cotton. It also signed the public cotton pledge created by the Responsible Sourcing Network to prevent sourcing cotton from specific countries until they stop using forced labour.
