Strategic Plan for Parole and Probation
6-Month Plan
- Offer kickstart funding to support service users’ pathways to self-development. Parolees may use the funds to buy essentials such as clothing and finance travel expenses as they seek job opportunities to earn a livelihood.
- Work with housing partners to acquire houses for parolees by directly acquiring houses or embracing a collaborative plan to offer parolees shelter. This is meant to encourage resistance among service users (Florida, 2021).
- Build on opportunities that will encourage positive citizenship among service users. This will include seeking opportunities in sport, youth participation, and inclusion in recreational activities (Florida, 2021).
- Implement strategies for social inclusion for individuals still under supervision by the parole and probation service.
1-Year Plan
- After helping parolees settle in the community and find shelter, the next step is to help them find long-term livelihoods. The parole and probation service will explore ways the civil and public service can provide useful employment for qualified convicts.
- Support individual growth in peer-led and community-based organizations. These organizations will help former offenders integrate into the community with less stigmatization. Also, peer-led mentorship will teach them coping mechanisms if they face stigmatization.
2-Year Plan
- In collaboration with the Prison Service and the Department of Justice, the service will conduct a case-by-case review of service users to determine the effectiveness of interventions and the conduct of each parolee.
- Engage the ex-convicts to determine whether the interventions led to meaningful outcomes in reintegration and resettlement areas.
Process for Determining Goal Success
The service will set key performance indicators to evaluate the success of parole and probation service interventions. For instance, successful employment and the ability to retain a job throughout the probation period is an indicator that the interventions were successful (Florida, 2021). Also, staying away from alcohol and substance abuse throughout the probation period is a positive indicator for previous users. Overall, the service will set relevant metrics for each former convict to evaluate goal success.
