STAT 3001 – Week 2 Discussion – Comparing Statistical Studies

I have chosen to review two “Focus On” questions regarding Health Education and also Agriculture. The first study, discussed on page 403, asks the question of will your education help you live longer. The study focuses on outlining life habits that add to life expectancy instead of habits that can shorten a life span. For this particular testing sample, I don’t think that the sample is a representation of the population because it was widespread throughout several countries. Our assignment help will hone your writing prowess for papers that will awe your professors.

This may also allow some bias to be present in this testing due to having such a broad population throughout several countries and not focusing on a particular group. Each country has its own different set of influences that contribute to longer life expectancy that may have an effect on the subjects’ education. The results of this testing are important for giving a positive light on furthering education and showing the physical attributes that continuous learning can have in addition to just the academic gains. The second study, discussed on page 406, raises the question of “Are Genetically Modified Foods Safe?” This study explains the argument between scientists and many opposers that genetically modified foods are toxic to humans and animals, even though scientists believe that GMOs are helpful in fighting off insects. In this study, there was no targeted sample, only generalized testing done by scientists with no provided numerical data. There could be possible bias evident in this study if there is a relationship between researchers and corporations that support GMOs. The results of this study could be important for raising awareness of any dangers of food toxins to consumers. Any data from testing can be used to identify exactly which foods are unsafe and may cause long-term illness. Statistically, the stronger study is the Health and Education study regarding education helping people to live longer. This study is backed by actual data taken over a period of time. The testing has a target population in which sampling was used to collect data, whereas the agriculture study did not have a sample of any particular group. The results of any testing are provided by the scientists and the farmers.

Question

STAT 3001 – Week 2 Discussion – Comparing Statistical Studies

Post by Day 3 a 2- to 3-paragraph response that includes the
the following information:

Identify two “Focus on…” sections you have chosen to review
and provide a brief summary of the content.

For each topic, discuss whether you think the sample is
representative of the population being studied.

What criteria did you use to decide this? Was the sample chosen in a way that is likely to introduce bias? What kinds of errors are likely to be associated with
each study? Explain.
