Setting SMART Goals for Healthcare Careers- Enhancing Patient Care and Organizational Productivity

The healthcare job that I have selected is a registered nurse. Nursing is a profession that offers a meaningful career. It is filled with many challenges, opportunities, and rewards. I selected nursing as a healthcare job since it will allow me to improve the well-being of patients. Nursing will allow me to make a real difference. This profession is all about the patient. The patient is at the center of the nursing profession (Santana et al., 2017). This career helps save people’s lives and bring happiness to patients. A nurse cares for mental health, geriatric patients, and rehabilitative programs that can help improve healthcare outcomes.

To improve the quality of care, the SMART goal I will develop is “The hospital will offer quality improvement training programs leading to 80% of staff completing quality improvement by November 10, 2022.” The training of healthcare professionals allows them to provide basic care to the patient. Effective training programs increase staff competency and promote empowerment which will allow them to better undertake their tasks (Chaghari et al., 2018). This will improve patient satisfaction and quality of care.

The performance goal to improve organization productivity is to ensure all staff members have healthy habits. The goal is “Despite the nursing profession being challenging; all staff members will be advised to develop healthy habits. They will be advised to exercise 30 minutes a day to keep as healthy as possible.” Healthcare professionals are a mentally and physically burdened group. They have demanding tasks and rotating shifts, making planning and performing physical exercises hard (Saridi et al., 2019). Physical exercise is important. It has multiple healthcare benefits for spiritual, physical, and mental health and wellness (Saridi et al., 2019). This will improve their productivity.
