Service Orientation

Service Orientation

A service-oriented architecture is a software design that offers services to other components via a communication protocol. The principle of service-oriented architecture is being independent of vendors and other technologies. Several services communicate with each other by passing data or coordinating activities in this software design. Service-oriented architecture design plays a role in networked e-business (Grefen, 2016). First, service-oriented architecture can transform technology into true business enablers, which is fundamental for firms anticipating success in increasingly competitive markets.

The second role of service-oriented architecture in e-business is that it allows for development of more secure and easy-to-handle applications. This is because it offers common infrastructure and documentation to create services with the chance of adding more features. Developing services that accommodate future developments is prudent since it saves resources that could be wasted in building new infrastructure (Grefen, 2016). Thus, it continuously improves the existing infrastructure to support more functions.

Thirdly, service-oriented architecture helps a lot in minimizing data loss. This design is built to offer security for data leakage, thus making it a more secure design that could suit many firms in e-business (Chakray, 2022). In a modern era where data is being exchanged more often than at any other time, it is essential to work with secure systems to avoid losing data to third parties (Software Development Community, 2016). The services-oriented architecture allows for faster application development and is more cost-effective. In other words, this architecture helps a firm to cut some extra costs and, thus, makes it more profitable.

Another role of service-oriented architecture is that it helps e-business firms to improve their agility and flexibility. Firms with agility and flexibility easily adjust to market changes and remain in business for a long time (Grefen, 2016). The e-business industry is so dynamic that firms operating in it need to have high flexibility and agility to keep pace with the changes and remain competitive.
