People possess more than the physical body when it comes to individualism. As an individual, a person is whole when the mind, body, and spirit provide holism. In a holistic state, individuals are healthy and have optimum vitality. In contrast, when an aspect of an individual is not in an optimum condition, their health is affected, resulting in ailments (Eliopoulos, 2018). This chain of events illustrates the basis of holism and holistic health. As individuals lead their daily lives, they must consistently ensure self-care and mindfulness.

Self-care is an essential aspect of holism. Self-care entails the activities or conduct that people implement in their lives to ensure health. Further, mindfulness is the ability to be utterly aware of sensations and feelings. With this in mind, it is apparent that self-care and mindfulness go hand in hand. This association means that when individuals are mindful, they are keen on how they feel and what they sense. If they feel distressed or smell an irregularity, they can take the necessary precautions by being mindful, thus implementing self-care. Accordingly, self-care and mindfulness mean being aware of one’s state, be it mental or spiritual, and taking the necessary steps; that is self-care when vitality appears to deviate from the optimum.

There are several strategies that I can apply to incorporate self-care and mindfulness in my daily life. First, I will consume a balanced diet, cutting back on unhealthy foods. By being mindful of the contents and effects of unhealthy foods, I will consume healthy foods as a self-care technique to ensure health. Second, I will create time to exercise at least four times a week. Being mindful of the standard healthy weight will keep me aware of the state of my physical body.

Consequently, I will observe self-care by exercising regularly to maintain my healthy weight, which benefits my physical body. Third, I will apply a healthy sleep pattern by ensuring I have enough sleep of roughly eight hours. By being mindful that sleep affects many aspects of an individual’s health, from ailments such as migraines to insomnia and night terrors, I will actualize a sleep routine as a self-care approach.

Fifth, I will incorporate meditation into my daily routine. Meditation is a technique used for relaxation that clears the mind and creates harmony within an individual. Being mindful of the importance of meditation and its benefits, I will incorporate it as a self-care routine for a peaceful mind. Sixth, I will maintain healthy relationships and seek help when needed. Maintaining healthy relationships and seeking help will ease the mind and promote resilience and vitality. The consequence of not applying self-care or mindfulness includes stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, substance abuse, and suicide (Christopher & Maris, 2010). Seventh, I will incorporate spirituality into my life. Spirituality enables one to be mindful by providing a calm similar to meditation; doing this will illustrate self-care.

Consistently, self-care and mindfulness pose many benefits to an individual by promoting health and vitality. Self-care and mindfulness affect an individual’s personal and social life, including at workplaces, places of worship, schools, and other public venues. Self-care and mindfulness apparent stress while promoting health, relaxation, and vitality (Slonim et al., 2015). Subsequently, self-care and mindfulness will encourage motivation to work diligently at my place of work due to my vitality status. Additionally, my social life at my home of work will be strengthened through the ease of interactions with others and the development of healthy relationships with colleagues.
