Social workers are among the many experts who, by virtue of experience and knowledge, raise various issues that need to be addressed in society. Social workers work closely with the members of society, and hence, they are in a position to understand social issues. Therefore, social workers play various roles in social welfare and policy formulation (Social Workin, 2021). Some of these roles include; carrying out research and identification of issues affecting society. The issues that are affecting society are always at the center of policy formulation. Therefore, the first stage of policy formulation is researching and identifying issues that ought to be addressed.
Secondly, social workers play the role of advocacy and representation. Advocacy refers to the development and uplifting of vulnerable sections of societies. Thus, by their experience and knowledge, social workers present the identified issues to relevant authorities to get the attention they deserve. Thirdly, social workers consolidate expert opinions on the raised issues; they contact politicians, administrators, experts, and government officials to get their opinions before formulating a sound policy that governs the issue (Social Workin, 2021). Another role of social workers in the implementation and execution of social policies is the people on the ground to implement the measures taken to address a particular problem.
Social welfare and policy formulation are very important in the social work practice because it is the framework on which the social practice is based. Social workers, government officials, and other experts are guided by the social policies to implement various projects meant to solve social problems Kassella, K. (2021). Social policy helps social workers, experts, and the community understand social problems in society, their causes, and how they affect people. The social policy practice also reveals how the government has implemented the policies to solve these social problems.
