Riverview College Case Study

How did Dr. Fernandez’s decisions reflect ethical leadership principles? Explain your response.

The decisions Dr. Fernandez makes reflect ethical leadership principles in several ways. Dr. Fernandez exhibits principles of ethical leadership of transparency, inclusivity, and stakeholder engagement as she organized a forum for all faculty, staff, and students to actively engage in dialogue and contribute ideas towards the proposed changes. Stakeholder engagement and dialogue define how an organization relates to its internal and external driving factors (Passetti et al., 2019). She utilized surveys to collect the perspectives of members of Riverview College to understand their needs and aspirations and utilized such feedback to inform her decisions. Dr. Fernandez also reflects on the ethical leadership principle of training and development. Dr. Fernandez launched the professional development program that provided digital pedagogy, peer mentoring, and online teaching resources to help the faculty adapt to new teaching methods and curricula.

Reflect on the leadership qualities Dr. Fernandez demonstrated during this period of transformation. What aspects of her leadership style were particularly effective in navigating the ethical and practical challenges of leading change in an academic environment?

Dr. Fernandez faced the leadership challenge of balancing innovation and tradition and ensuring that changes are effectively implemented and inclusive of all key stakeholders. She exhibits aspects of an inclusive leadership style that were effective in helping navigate the ethical and practical challenges of leading change in an academic environment. For instance, she is visionary and inclusive; she sets the goals of the change and creates an environment for dialogue which allows others to share their diverse perspectives to drive the change that aligns with aspects of leadership that create inclusive leadership (Kuknor & Bhattacharya, 2022). She also shows adaptiveness aspects as a leader. She designs the change process in a way that enables her to balance the change and traditions and remain flexible throughout the period of change.

Discuss the potential long-term impacts of Dr. Fernandez’s decisions on the college community. Consider both the ethical implications and the practical outcomes of her strategic initiatives.

Being inclusive as a leader by considering diversities in perspectives is one way of such diverse settings, especially within academic settings, to work collaboratively towards common goals and improve the academic achievements of patients (Óskarsdóttir et al., 2020). Therefore, Dr. Fernandez’s decisions are expected to lead to academic excellence in the long term. She also sets an example for ethical leadership and the need to adhere to ethics to drive change. Therefore, the students and other staff are expected to adhere to the ethical culture and ensure ethical conduct in all aspects of the college. Most importantly, her decisions are expected to establish a culture and innovation driven by the need to ensure Riverview College is continuously adapting to the changing learning environment.
