Research Proposal Draft: Theoretical Framework

The proposed study aims to explore the impact of insufficient management of chronic pain on the mental wellness and quality of life of adults within a community setting: Research Proposal Draft: Theoretical Framework.

Overview and Guiding Proposition(s) Described in Theory

This study is guided by the integrated pain care model. The model details the reciprocal association of the psychological, social, environmental, and psychological factors in the development of chronic pain. As per these provisions, chronic pain stretches beyond individual experiences and clinical manifestations to a multilevel and complex constellation of interrelated factors resulting in impairment in physical, psychological, emotional, and social functioning (Hooten et al., 2024). This broad integration of elements warrants a comprehensive, multifaceted approach to managing pain.

Comprehensive management of chronic pain has traditionally focused on a multi-pronged approach. In the healthcare sector, managing chronic pain integrates a multidisciplinary team, where healthcare professionals from different cadres come together to design pain-specific therapeutic care plans. This strategy has been associated with better chronic pain management as demonstrated by improved clinical outcomes, pain remission, decreased need for opioid medications, reduction in hospital visitation, and elevated quality of life (Kovačević et al., 2024).

Application of Theory to the Study’s Focus

The proposed research is informed by the need to elevate chronic pain care. Adequate chronic pain management may result in improved quality of life and wellness. By interrogating the impact of insufficient care on health and well-being, the study demonstrates why efforts should be made to improve pain management within the community.

The study is also aligned with the provisions on comprehensive management of pain that requires addressing all factors interplaying in chronic pain as it explores both the psychological and physical impacts of chronic pain. Findings from the study can help affirm the role of integrated models in managing chronic pain.
