Sample/Setting

The convenience sampling technique will be used to select the study participants. This sampling method was preferred as it facilitates the elucidation of persons willing to contribute to the study. Persons included in the study must be aged 18 years and above, have a history of pain and meet the criteria for chronic pain, be willing to share their experience with the pain and be able to read and write. The exclusion criteria include persons below 18 years and those attached to a healthcare facility for chronic pain management.

Subsequently, 20 and 30 adults who meet the inclusion criteria are expected to take part in the study. This sample size is justifiable due to the high prominence of poorly managed chronic pain within society. Likewise, the inclusion criteria are broad, allowing the majority of persons with chronic pain to participate in the study.

The proposed research will be conducted in the community settings. Foremost, the research is centered on chronic pain. Chronic pain is one of the emerging healthcare concerns around the world. It is a reason for increasing hospitalizations and suffering for many people. Factors such as disparities in accessing healthcare and poor perceptions of chronic pain have considerably lowered individual’s healthcare seeking to address the pain (Fekede et al., 2023).

This results in many people having poorly managed chronic pain across communities. The purpose of the study is to explore the impact of poorly managed chronic pain on the quality of life and mental wellness of adults within the community setting. Findings will help healthcare organizations, providers, and agencies determine what contributes to the problem. It will also enhance their understanding of the individualized reason for poor healthcare seeking for management of chronic pain.

Sampling Strategy

The sampling strategy that will be employed in the study is convenience sampling. Convenience sampling remains applicable in many research settings. It is a form of non-probability sampling where the selection of the study participants is based on their availability and willingness to take part in the study. This technique is better placed for this research.

Foremost, the nature of the study makes it only suitable for those willing to participate. It also allows persons who meet the criteria for the focus group to be identified and recruited. This means that only persons who are ready to share their pain experiences will take part in the study. The sampling method also eliminates barriers to participation that would otherwise reduce the sample size (Ahmed, 2024).

Research Design

The research design employed in the study is the case study. The case study is a design under qualitative methodology. It allows the researcher to examine individuals or communities. Likewise, it integrates diverse data collection methods, such as interviews and observations (Priya, 2020).

This makes it more preferred to explore the impact of chronic pain on adults with poorly managed pain. In this case, the researcher will be able to restrict the research to the focus groups and collect data through observations and interviewing.

Using multiple data collection methods facilitates a deeper understanding of the researched concept. Confining the study to the focus group also ensures efficiency. This underlines the use of the methodology.
