Promoting Innovation in Organizational Culture

Promoting Innovation in Organizational Culture

Making Innovation a Part of the Company

I would make innovation part of the company’s culture by introducing internal competition and encouraging employees to implement their creative ideas. I would ensure participating in the competitions is mandatory and reward employees with the best ideas. I would also create innovation teams to encourage employees to work together and exchange ideas that can be used to enhance organizational performance. The teams would have a team leader responsible for setting a clear direction for the team members and acquiring the resources required to implement innovative ideas.

Recommended Organizational Structures and Processes

The organizational structure I would recommend is a decentralized structure that includes transferring authority from senior management to employees. I would ensure that employees have the autonomy to implement their new ideas without authorization from top management. According to Kortmann (2012), a decentralized structure promotes a culture of innovation by enabling the employees to exercise their maximum potential due to a sense of competition. It also enables employees to be innovative by quickly responding to customer needs, such as product improvement.

The processes I would recommend include regular performance evaluation. This process would promote innovation because employees would implement creative ideas to improve their performance and get recognition for significantly contributing to organizational performance. The second process is rewarding employees. Rewards promote innovation by creating a sense of belonging because employees feel the organization recognizes their efforts.

Organizational Resistance

I would expect organizational resistance to embracing new technology to manufacture autonomous cars. For instance, employees will be required to familiarize themselves with the computer systems used to manufacture autonomous cars. Therefore, they may have to undergo additional training that could strain them because they have to set aside time for training and still complete their assigned tasks on time.

Overcoming Resistance

I would overcome the resistance by training and mentoring employees to help them understand that the changes will help them improve their knowledge and capabilities in manufacturing cars, which, as a result, positively impacts the growth of their careers. I would also incentivize employees who participate in the training program and use their skills in manufacturing autonomous cars.
