I am writing concerning a sixteen-year-old girl from Venezuela who moved with her family to New Mexico and needs your services. I have worked closely with my client, and in the process, I thought of your organization because I believe you are in a position to help and protect this girl.
My client was living with her mother until she faced domestic conflicts and decided to live with her sister and her husband. My client has no background in attending school, and this seems difficult even in her new environment since she only speaks Spanish and cannot write. Other than her family, the client has no other social support system.
However, it was reported that the client was sexually assaulted by her brother-in-law. She has so far not received the support of her family, especially her sister, with whom she lives. Her sister accused her of being the cause of the assault. I am afraid that this harms the client, especially because she can only trust her family to support her. Her strained relationship with her mother makes it even more difficult to provide emotional and mental support for her. Not only is her place of stay/home threatened, but she also loses her only support system. She has already completed her evidence kit of the sexual assault and has been linked to a local shelter for people who have experienced domestic violence.
Given your organization’s work to help such clients, I believe that the girl would significantly benefit from your services and that putting her in a shelter alone is not enough. Regarding her case, some factors are to be considered, such as psychological, social, emotional, and legal. Provision of her physical needs alone would not be sufficient.
I hope you will prioritize her, especially because the sources of her anguish are those she trusted to support her. I hope to hear from you soon.
