GloFlo Textiles announces the launch of the Minors’ Education Program in India and the GloFlo Makeover Project.
Columbus, Ohio – GloFlo today announces the upcoming Minors Education Program in India, Mumbai, and the launch of the GloFlo Makeover Project. The two programs intend to solve current issues that conflict with the company’s values and sustainability policies.
In the recent past, GloFlo Textiles has been associated with labor malpractices in one of its Indian branches. The main accusations, which have been raised anonymously, include overworking, underpayments, and employment of underage staff as casual laborers. These very practices go against the company’s values that govern its interaction with employees. Thus, such practices are intolerable.
In addition, the company’s environmental conservation practices are significantly conflicted by the main raw material: cotton. The environmental damage that is associated with cotton production is now a managerial concern as its use extends the damage further, requiring consideration of alternative materials.
GloFlo realizes that it is responsible for protecting the main stakeholders’ interests, the environment and extending the most sustainable and environmentally friendly fabrics to its clients. This decision is expected to confirm the company’s position and create awareness regarding the environmental harm of cotton clothing. Most importantly, it should inform consumers and other manufacturers about the existent alternatives to cotton, whether organic or inorganic.
Child labor is a common occurrence in most developing nations. In India, children work mostly in the informal sectors, and the current regulations have not successfully eliminated the practice in all areas. The GloFlo branch in Mumbai is prone to accepting child labor as most venture into urban centers to seek employment. Each of the minors works due to extreme poverty levels, which also robs them of their childhood (Jacobs & Misra, 2017). Thus, it is difficult to arbitrarily cut off the minors who have been working at the company.
The company plans to set up an educational center for these children where they can gain skills and knowledge that are related to the manufacture of clothing. The younger minors will be enrolled in the respective grades, and their tuition fee will be paid. This will ensure that they attend school until they attain the legal working age of 17 years or to the desirable levels. All children who will be enrolled in the pioneer program will have the chance to secure employment at the factory once they attain the legal working age.
The initiative will benefit the individuals and their families as well by eradicating illiteracy. Most importantly, this action will set a different perspective for other organizations and assist the current regulations in eliminating child labor. The company will also review the current remuneration packages and increase its staff members to avoid overworking current staff.
Cotton production is unsustainable due to the adverse impacts on the natural environment. Most fabrics are made of cotton, making it popular among clients. This popularity is based on the perceived benefits of using cotton clothing. The lack of exploration of alternative materials that can be used to manufacture clothes contributes to the misplaced popularity.
Producing one cotton T-shirt requires at least 3000 liters of water (Kusaga Athletic, 2015). This natural resource is already limited due to the current climate changes, making cotton fabrics environmentally damaging. Furthermore, the use of toxic fertilizers and pesticides harms the people and environment further (KOPA, 2019). Due to these aspects, GloFlo has decided to explore a different alternative to cotton: bamboo.
Bamboo is more environmentally sustainable than cotton since it has hypoallergenic qualities, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin. Its production is safer and does not require replanting after maturation at seven years. The bamboo fabric is smooth, absorbs moisture easily, dries faster than cotton after washing, and has a silky texture (Is bamboo fabric as eco-friendly as bamboo?, 2014). It is also as affordable as pure cotton fabrics. It can grow in various climates, making it less costly to farm.
GloFlo intends to research and experiment further to ascertain which processes and procedures will be used to convert bamboo into useful fabric. A program dubbed GloFlo Makeover will be responsible for this process. It involves experts from different disciplines and countries as well as company representatives to ensure that the set goals are achieved. The one-year program may consume over $1,000,000. In the meantime, the company will be recycling cotton clothing and using organic cotton to produce clothes.
Policy Statement
This policy seeks to emphasize GloFlo Textiles’ position as far as interaction with employees is concerned. All employees should be treated humanely and in alignment with the country’s labor laws and regulations. They must be of working age to qualify as our employees in India, the USA, and China. Exploitation of employees will be punished severely.

Press Release and Policy Statement
Chief Supply Chain Officer
Congratulations! You are the newly appointed Chief Supply Chain Officer for a global, high profile fashion company.

Press Release and Policy Statement
Now the bad news; you’re going to have to hit the ground running!
A recent article by an investigative journalist has gone viral; exposing some pretty disturbing labor practices in one of the company’s factories in India. Worse still, this comes on the heels of another high-profile documentary exposing the environmental issues in cotton production. The company sources cotton from both India and China. Corporate management is coming under intense international pressure as well as from the US press, public, environmentalists, shareholders and the board of directors. The CEO is looking to you to
1) Get a policy statement out fast and identify the demonstrable actions you will be taking to remedy the situation. The statement should address the company’s commitment to civic and social responsibility in all the countries and communities in which it operates (China, India and the US).
2) Press Release – You’ve also been asked to provide examples of country-specific and culturally sensitive initiatives that the company will be taking to remedy the situation and improve the company’s image in the eyes of its international stakeholders.
…No pressure, but you’ve got to get this done in time for the international press conference scheduled later this week.
Submit as Press Release that will be distributed at the press conference for immediate release.
Note: You will have to do background research to complete this assignment. You need to include 3-4 cited and referenced sources.
