Planning an Effective Team-The Roles Tasks and Skills of the Team Members

Team’s purpose

We offer market entry guidance for the success of new products and services in a new market

The specific roles of the team members

As the team leader, I will assume the role of a marketing manager. According to Solberg (2017), a marketing manager leads the marketing team and ensures that every team member completes assigned tasks accurately and within the required timeline. My main roles will be guiding the team members on what is expected and ensuring they have the necessary resources. My specific tasks will include delegating responsibilities among team members based on their knowledge, skills, and competencies, communicating the marketing project’s progress to the VP, and handling conflicts among team members. The second team member will be a market researcher. He will present a detailed SWOT, PESTEL, and Porter’s five forces analysis of the new product to determine whether it will be successful in the market. The researcher will also review the trends that could affect the product’s sales in the market. The main tasks the researcher will perform are reporting the research findings to the team, analyzing data and summarizing it, and issuing surveys to assess customer opinions about the product.

The third team member will be a brand strategist. He will create a long-term strategy that will be used to increase sales and maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty. He will also offer recommendations on brand positioning based on the information presented by the market researcher. The brand strategist will also recommend strategies that the company should consider to increase brand value. The main tasks of the brand strategist will be developing brand stories that will be integrated into the marketing message and monitoring brand performance to determine whether existing brand positioning strategies are effective. The fourth team member will be a marketing consultant. She will create the marketing message and advertisements. She will also recommend changes that should be made to existing marketing strategies to meet the marketing objectives. The main tasks that she will be assigned include providing feedback to customers who respond to advertisements posted on social media platforms, looking for marketing channels that will increase customer reach, and creating a marketing budget. The fifth team member will be a data analyst. He will collaborate with the marketing researcher to access data on the product’s market. His main tasks will include analyzing market data, identifying data sources that the market researcher can use to get reliable information, and creating a database to store the data gathered by the market researcher for future reference in decision-making.

Skills and/or traits for each role and why they are critical

The marketing manager must have good communication and problem-solving skills. The essential trait for the position is the willingness to listen because the team members will be giving different recommendations on what should be done to enhance the success of the new product in the market. The ability to inspire is also needed to motivate the team members to complete assigned tasks accurately and within the specified timelines. The marketing researcher must have good communication skills to present research findings. The most important trait he should have is good time management to complete research on time so that the information gathered can be applied in decision-making. The brand strategist must have good teamwork skills to collaborate with other team members in brand positioning and creating brand value. An important trait in the brand strategist position is creativity because the position includes generating new ideas to improve brand performance. The marketing consultant must have good communication skills to design a clear marketing message. Attention to detail is also a vital train for the marketing consultant to identify areas of improvement in the marketing campaigns and advertisements. The data analyst must have good research skills to interpret and analyze data effectively. One of the most important traits he should have is the ability to work in a team because he needs to collaborate with the market researcher and brand strategist to access data.

Strategies a team leader could use to ensure the effectiveness of their team and why they are important to foster.

A team leader could set expectations for each team member to ensure team effectiveness. Setting expectations is vital in ensuring that every team member knows what they are required to achieve within the team. The second strategy is delegating tasks and responsibilities based on team members’ skills and competencies. According to Otis-Green & Fineberg (2015), teams are more productive if tasks are assigned based on a team member’s ability to complete them, thus prompting team effectiveness. The third strategy is allowing team members to implement new ideas and work under minimum supervision. Team members are more productive when there is minimum supervision, thus increasing team effectiveness

Question

Scenario:

Your VP has asked you to create a new team for a new product or service the company is introducing. You will be building a team to support the product/service, which will consist of 5–7 members, which you will lead. In this assignment, you will complete the first step in the process of creating an effective team: planning. You will determine the roles needed on the team, describe these roles, choose the tasks assigned to each role, and identify the skills team members need to complete those tasks.

Planning an Effective Team-The Roles Tasks and Skills of the Team Members

Instructions:

Create a 1–2 page plan for your team that meets the following
requirements:
State your team’s purpose. This purpose should make clear the team’s shared goal, what the team does, for whom, and why.
Example: We produce financial reports so our customers can receive timely, quality investment information.
Explain the specific roles you will need and what each will be responsible for. Describe the responsibilities of the role, including the types of tasks the team member performs. Remember to include yourself as the team leader. Your team can be no larger than 5–7 people.
As an example, you as a leader might opt to have a Business Analyst (BA) as a member of the team.
The Business Analyst would run reports, present an analysis of the data, and share findings with the leader and/or team.
The Business Analyst would work with the team leader to provide data and analysis about the new product or service.
What are the skills and/or traits you have identified each role will require and why are those critical?
Continuing with the Business Analyst example: The analyst must have strong analytical ability and be great at using creativity, reasoning, and past experiences to identify and solve problems effectively.
A trait that is important for this role includes being detail-oriented and focused.
Additionally, technical literacy is important as the BA must be proficient with basic computer skills.
The BA must possess the ability to work well in one or more groups and bring out the best in others (teamwork skills) and outcomes.
Identify and describe three strategies a team leader could use to ensure the effectiveness of their team and why those are important to foster.
