Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Concepts
All healthcare professionals who are engaged in establishing drug therapy plans need to conduct thorough evaluations and assessments of the patient before prescribing certain drugs for their treatment plan. Healthcare providers ought to assess the client’s factors that influence pharmacotherapeutics (Kluwer, 2018). As provided during learning sessions, pharmacokinetics involves the study of the distribution, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs. On the other hand, pharmacodynamics concepts deals with the relationship between the concentration of drugs in the human body and pharmacological responses. Having adequate knowledge about pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will form a strong foundation for the provision of safe drugs to patients and perhaps reduce negative effects associated with body responses towards the drugs.
The patient scenario case in presenting entails a 55-year-old Caucasian female identified as Mrs. X, who was recently diagnosed with a neurocognitive medical challenge (Kluwer, 2018).
The client’s family history indicates that her mother has Alzheimer’s disease. Mrs. X has been experiencing increased levels of anxiety, confusion, and agitation. Among the drugs prescribed for the patient included Seroquel 12.5 mg PO bid, Flomax 0.4 mg once daily, Norvasc 5g once daily, and Remeron 7.5 gm to be taken at bedtime. After taking the drugs for a few weeks, there was a gradual but slow change, and this necessitated the use of Zyprexa Zaydis 5mg PRN, which was prescribed for taking every 6 hours. Zyprexa Zaydis 5mg PRN had the effect of making MRX feel sleepy, an aspect that led to the patient being held in the medical facility for effective close monitoring. Immediately after the administration of the Zyprexa Zaydis 5mg PRN, Mrs. X’s walking nature changed, and it was noted that she had an unsteady gait. This meant that she was to get to bed rest for a few hours alongside close monitoring and observations about her general progress.
The treatment and care plan for Mrs. X’s scenario will encompass progressive monitoring and assessment to ascertain her bodily response to the drugs she is currently taking. The patient will be assessed for antipsychotic, sedation, and other adverse side effects of the response medication, and in case of severe impacts, other non-pharmacological means will be used to reduce the effects such as agitation (Ekhtiari, Zare-Bidoky, & Verdejo-Garcia, 2020).

Question
Pharmacokinetics And Pharmacodynamics Concepts
Review the Resources for this module and consider the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Reflect on your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last 5 years and think about how pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors altered his or her anticipated response to a drug.
Consider factors that might have influenced the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, such as genetics (including pharmacogenetics), gender, ethnicity, age, behavior, and/or possible pathophysiological changes due to disease.
Think about a personalized plan of care based on these influencing factors and the patient history with GAD.
BY DAY 3 OF WEEK 8
Post a discussion of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics related to anxiolytic medications used to treat GAD. In your discussion, utilize the discussion highlights to compare and contrast different treatment options that can be used.
