Personal Values

Personal Values

I have great personal values that I believe would make me an outstanding leader. One of these values is accountability. I am very responsible, meaning that I take responsibility for my actions, and I am, in most cases, dependable. I expect others to be accountable for their actions, too. Johnson (2019) states that followers should be highly accountable for their deeds. In addition, I have integrity; thus, people can trust me to make the right choices and operate from the point of honesty. Moreover, I am a person who respects people no matter who they are, and in the same way, I never want to be disrespected. As a result, some negative traits could be evident when I am disrespected. In addition, I am compassionate and can be very understanding. Most importantly, I treat people as I would want to be treated, and as such, I will treat people well.

After taking the assessment, I learned that my approach is that of influencing and empowering other people. As a result, referent power would be more suitable for me. Typically, referent power tends to be the kind of power that comes from the leader’s aptitude to influence and motivate other people (Thomas, 2002). I have respectful interpersonal traits that would enable me to build great relationships with my followers. Coercing others can never be my approach to leadership. I am the kind of leader who would make the followers feel highly valued, significant, and approved, give them the right jobs, and also make them accountable for their roles, and generally make the work setting very conducive, a place where workers are inspired to go each day.
