Personal Success Narrative

Who am I Now:

A myriad of events and lessons have marked my academic and professional history. I am a high school graduate who has been working as a medical assistant immediately after graduation. My job description involved working in concert with healthcare providers in the outpatient department. I performed both clinical and administrative tasks. The clinical duties equipped me with basic skills such as medical history taking, patient counseling, medication preparation and administration, and conducting laboratory and imaging studies. The administrative roles enlightened me on inventory control, reception of patients, computer packages, and scheduling. Finally, I have decided to become a Healthcare Administrator. As I pursue my degree in healthcare administration, I still volunteer as a medical assistant.

My Goals

My first goal is to successfully complete my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration. Consistently, I am aiming at attaining a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.4 upon graduation. This requires working smart and amending my daily schedule. I will minimize the hours spent volunteering as a medical assistant. Furthermore, I will prioritize and categorize activities based on their importance and urgency. This will enable me to avoid time-wasting activities. Achieving this GPA at the time of graduation will bring to fruition my two ultimate goals: becoming a Healthcare Administrator and pursuing a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration.

I would like to become a Healthcare Administrator to improve the daily operations of healthcare facilities. This is important because health is a key facet of a person’s well-being. Policies and frameworks set up by Healthcare Administrators contribute to the smooth running of activities and excellent patient experiences. The desire to pursue a master’s degree emanates from the merits of accompanying the program. It will increase my competency in innovativeness, solving problems, and strategic planning (Elder & Shanderson, 2018). These skills are key to molding a successful leader in healthcare facilities and other institutions. Therefore, fulfilling my goals will help redefine healthcare service provision and increase patient satisfaction levels.

How I Will Get There

I am aware that the fulfillment of my goals will be met by various stumbling blocks, such as time and finances. The successful completion of my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration with a GPA of at least 3.4 requires determination. I will have to reduce the hours spent volunteering as a medical assistant. Furthermore, I will have to stratify and prioritize tasks and daily activities. I usually volunteer for a cumulative of sixteen hours weekly. I plan to make a graded hour reduction per week to a steady state of 4 hours per week by the end of the year. I will create a daily schedule that prioritizes important and urgent activities. The hours spent on leisure activities will be reduced significantly. However, I will not scrap off activities that help relax the mind and body, such as physical exercise and meditation. Financial constraints face my ultimate goal of pursuing a master’s degree. However, this will be overcome by seeking a scholarship. The attainment of a GPA of at least 3.4 will increase my chances of being considered for the scholarship.

My goal is to complete this degree by the summer of 2025. This calls for extra effort and increasing the number of courses done per quarter. After graduating, I will apply for a one-year internship program. After that, I will seek a scholarship opportunity and apply for my master’s degree program. I am optimistic about my future and ready to accomplish all steps required to become a Healthcare Administrator and pursue my master’s degree.
