To complete CITI modules to gain knowledge on ethical use of health care information systems for QI projects; Spring 2023 CITI modules helped improve on my research skills, understand the ethics of research in mental health, compliance, and safety using HIS: Spring 2023.
2.    Analyze and communicate critical elements necessary to the selection, use and evaluation of health care information systems and patient care technology. I have been closely working with the IT department at the Columbus Spring East to develop a more tech-based mental health clinic since June 2022. To utilize healthcare information systems in mental healthcare delivery by end of Fall 2023. We have implemented a pilot telepsychology/psychiatry system as from November 2023.
3.    Demonstrate the conceptual ability and technical skills to develop and execute an evaluation plan involving data extraction from practice information systems and databases. I followed on the proceedings of Global Mental Health Conference: Research Without Borders by the US National Institute for Mental Health held from October 30 to November 1, 2023.

4.    Provide leadership in the evaluation and resolution of ethical and legal issues within healthcare systems relating to the use of information, information technology, communication networks, and patient care technology. I participated in a culturally competent mental health care teams and team leadership webinar for mental health practice on July 29th 2023. To gain better understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health care. I gained better insights into the legal and ethical complexities in mental healthcare and how to navigate such complexities: July 2023
5.    Evaluate consumer health information sources for accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness. Completed MHI 815 quality measures assignment and patch test. Fall 2023 To evaluate the sources of health information among consumer: Fall of 2023.

V. Health Care Policy for Advocacy in Health Care 1.    Critically analyze health policy proposals, health policies, and related issues from the perspective of consumers, nursing, other health professions, and other stakeholders in policy and public forums. I reviewed current and proposed policies on healthcare especially mental health during the Kentucky Nurses Association’s annual summit: Fall 2023 To understand stakeholder views on policies and the policy making processes. I gained more knowledge on lobbying and policy advocacy as a nurse: Fall 2023.
2.    Demonstrate leadership in the development and implementation of institutional, local, state, federal, and/or international health policy. I have been fully engaged in ensuring better working conditions for the team I work with at Columbus Spring East since I gained a leadership role from 2020. To lead in ensure safer working conditions for mental health workers. I understand my role as a policy advocator and a leader as of now.
3.    Influence policy makers through active participation on committees, boards, or task forces at the institutional, local, state, regional, national, and/or international levels to improve health care delivery and outcomes. I attended the Kentucky Nurses Association’s annual summit at the KY Capitol and interacted with healthcare and nurse lobbyists from different regions and care settings. I presented my perspectives on current status of mental health and need for policies changes for more equitable mental health care access for all population groups: Fall 2023. To engage in policy influencing by end of Fall 2023 Talking to policy lobbyists and participating in policy advocacy helped me understanding my role in ensuring better policies to improve health care delivery and outcomes: Fall 2023.
4.    Educate others, including policy makers at all levels, regarding nursing, health policy, and patient care outcomes. I have been a parttime AIAM nursing instructor with the role to develop a full curriculum and plan for individual courses, as well educating future nurses since Fall 2018. I intend to include policy educate as part of my teaching plan from Spring 2024 To include policy and advocacy material in nurse training as from March 2024. The aim of this part of the nurse training course is to ensure that they understand the process of policy-making and the influence they have in health policies. Planned for March 2024.
5.    Advocate for the nursing profession within the policy and healthcare communities. I attended the Kentucky Nurses Association’s annual summit: Fall 2023 Participate in policy advocacy for better healthy communities by end of Fall 2023 The summit was educative and helped me understand advocacy and appreciate the power I had in pushing for better health policies: Fall 2023
6.    Develop, evaluate, and provide leadership for health care policy that shapes health care financing, regulation, and delivery. Participated in two webinars on mental health, culturally competent mental health care teams, and team leadership, and another on the current and future policy environment for mental health practice on July 29th 2023, and October 28th 2023 respectively.

 

Participate in policy and mental health practitioner competencies review and improvement by end of Fall 2023. The webinars helped me to gain an understanding of the current policy environment and the state of provider competencies. It fueled my desire to develop my DNP project focused on mental health among minority groups: Fall 2023.
7.    Advocate for social justice, equity, and ethical policies within all healthcare arenas upholding cultural mores and values. Search and evaluate current legislature on mental health.

Focusing on social justice, accessibility by minority groups, and cultural competencies among current mental health practitioners with a focus on the workforce at Columbus Spring East in the Fall of 2023.

Identify policy gaps, cultural competencies, and health disparities and inequities in mental healthcare. I found that the current mental health teams lacked necessary cultural sensitivity to mental health perspectives in different cultural groups. There are also no specific policies promoting equitable access to mental health for minority groups: Fall 2023.
VI. Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient and Population Health Outcomes 1.    Employ effective communication and collaborative skills in the development and implementation of practice models, peer review, practice guidelines, health policy, standards of care, and/or other scholarly products. I have been a fulltime member of the Columbus Spring East since 03/2015 to present and a parttime team member at the OSU Medical Center DODD Hall since 2018 To improve interpersonal effective communication and collaborative skills in practice by end of 2023. I have successfully improved on the effectiveness of my communication during practice and in collaborative care delivery as of Spring 2024.
2.    Lead interprofessional teams in the analysis of complex practice and organizational issues. I have collaborating with other healthcare professionals at Columbus Spring East to develop and implement psychiatric intervention plans, and administer psychotropic and similar medications since March 2015 to present To improve interprofessional teams leadership skills managing complex care settings. I have successfully led complex care teams at the Columbus Spring East managing mental patients as of Spring 2024
3.    Employ consultative and leadership skills with intraprofessional and interprofessional teams to create change in health care and complex healthcare delivery systems. VIII. Advanced Practice Nursing

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.    Conduct a comprehensive and systematic assessment of health and illness parameters in complex situations, incorporating diverse and culturally sensitive approaches. I have been assigned the role of educating patients and families on nursing practices, diseases and care techniques at the OSU Medical Center DODD Hall since 2020 Understand triggers and underlying factors to mental health issues and outcomes among minority groups-Fall 2023 I have conducted a number of interviews with minority patients and identified various concerns especially stigmatization and culture on their health seeking behaviors-Spring 2024
2.    Design, implement, and evaluate therapeutic interventions based on nursing science and other sciences. I have been actively engaged in educating other healthcare professionals on providing the best care for patients in rehabilitation at the OSU Medical Center DODD Hall since 2021 Implement a hands-on nurse education tool for OSU Medical Center DODD Hall nurses by Summer 2021 Successfully implemented an evidence-based therapeutic interventions tool for nurses. It was evaluated in Spring 2023 and found to have improve the quality of implementing therapeutic interventions.
3.    Develop and sustain therapeutic relationships and partnerships with patients (individual, family or group) and other professionals to facilitate optimal care and patient outcomes. I have been actively collaborating with a team of mental health practitioners at the Columbus Spring East to deliver targeted psychoeducation for families since 2015 Conduct targeted psychoeducation for individuals and families.

You will write your own personal learning outcomes for each DNP 896 course. Write between 3-5 personal learning outcomes and put them on the e-portfolio in column three along with the date. Write your personal learning outcomes in column two of this e-portfolio record. The personal learning outcomes are due the second week of the course. There is no grade for this submission. Your faculty will review the personal learning outcomes and provide you with feedback. You will be evaluated on meeting the personal learning outcomes at the end of the semester when you submit the portfolio and associated documents. See examples in the syllabus under portfolio assignment.
