Personal Statement for Nursing

Personal Statement for Nursing

One can take many professional paths in life, but not many directly influence people’s lives. Nursing is one of the few professions that allow people to influence others directly. I have a background in the military, where I had a chance to directly see how people influence others by practicing medicine. I originally had no interest in nursing. I was interested in majoring in Criminal Justice because I liked the idea of helping crime victims. My interest in the medical field grew after interacting with forensic medicine, psychology, human anatomy, and physiology. I got to see the many possibilities for understanding the human body. My interest in medicine grew when I was serving in the Army. I was a research assistant at the US Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, where I had a chance to provide medical support to soldiers. However, it was not until last year that I decided I specifically wanted a career in nursing. I wanted a career that would help me to provide more direct support to patients and their families. I loved my job in the Army, but I know I can do more. With nursing training, I can finally gain the knowledge and skills that will allow me to offer more direct support to patients. I want to develop valuable personal and medical skills that will allow me to do more for patients under my care.

There is no better time than now to start my nursing training. I am highly motivated and would like to fulfill my dream of being a nursing professional as soon as possible. I currently volunteer at the Emergency Department, and I love the work I have been doing. My current job has enabled me to meet with other medical professionals, such as doctors and nurses, who have shown me how to better care for patients. I have had an opportunity to practice some of the key responsibilities of a nurse, such as medication administration, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, suturing, and CPR. Completing my nursing program will further sharpen these skills to help me be a better nurse to my patients.

I specifically chose the George Washington University Accelerated Nursing Program for my professional education and training because I believe in the institution’s ability to offer me high-quality education. George Washington University is a well-equipped institution with the resources I need to be a good nursing professional. Additionally, I believe that my character and experience make me a perfect fit for the George Washington University student community. Working in the Army has strengthened my fast-paced character and discipline, making me a perfect fit for the university’s high-performance and community culture. I hope being a part of this institution will allow me to take advantage of the high-quality education and great opportunities that the university offers.
