Peer Responses – Patient Health Record Database

Response 1

Hello,

I agree that database management systems are important in healthcare. Database management systems in healthcare compile patient data from different sources across organizations and providers. According to Mahmudova (2019), hospital database management systems play a vital role in improving the quality of healthcare services, thus enhancing patient safety and the integration of health institutions, doctors, and patients. Health database management systems also enable healthcare providers to continuously update a patient’s data every time a patient receives patient care. It also guarantees convenient and faster search for a patient’s information, including their health history. The main types of database management systems are object-oriented, relational, network, and hierarchical databases. Relational database management systems organize data in two-dimensional tables, including columns and rows. Object-oriented database management systems represent data as objects. It combines relational database and object-oriented concepts. Hierarchical databases include data elements with different relationships. Lastly, network database management systems include data elements with one relationship.

Hello,

I agree that personal health records are vital in nursing. According to Sarwal & Gupta (2022), personal health records include collecting an individual’s documentation of patient records. Information in personal health records includes the patient’s medical history, past surgical and medical interventions, applicable diagnoses, immunization status, blood type, allergies, insurance information, and the person who could be contacted during an emergency. One of the benefits of a personal health record is that it enables individuals to monitor their health and set their health goals based on their medical history. The second benefit is that it offers more clarity about the medication a patient should be given, thus enhancing compliance with the doctor’s guidance. The third benefit is that it enables healthcare providers to identify their failures and successes in healthcare delivery and the causes of various healthcare problems. Nurses can also use patient health records to personalize patient care based on a patient’s medical history and healthcare needs.

TOPIC: Describe a database that might be used in your current or future career. Using this data, explain the relationship between a field, a record, a table and a database. In addition, what are the advantages of managing database information in Access versus using a worksheet in Excel?

RE: DISCUSSION TOPIC – DATABASE CONCEPTS
Hi everyone,
A database that could be used in nursing is a patient health record (PHR) database. In this database, a field would be a specific piece of information about the patient, such as their name, age, or medical history. A record would be a collection of related fields, such as all of the information about a specific patient. A table would be a collection of related records, such as a table of all patient records. Finally, a database would be a collection of related tables, such as a database of patient health records. Managing patient information in a PHR database has several advantages over using paper records. For example, it allows for easier and more efficient access to patient information, which can be critical in emergency situations. Additionally, it allows for more accurate and complete documentation, improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of medical errors. Finally, it can improve communication between healthcare providers, which can lead to better coordination of care.

Hello class,

Healthcare databases, including electronic health records (EHRs), play a crucial role in collecting and processing patient information. A well-designed hospital database can enable healthcare providers to access relevant information quickly and efficiently through a database management system (DBMS). By using a DBMS, the data can be structured and organized in a way that makes it easier to use. This makes it possible for Healthcare providers to make more informed decisions about patient care. Tables within a database are used to store related information, such as a table of patient records within a larger database of patient health records. This allows for efficient management and retrieval of information and offers benefits over the use of paper records. With a database, it’s possible to quickly search and sort through large amounts of data, generate reports, and ensure data accuracy and consistency. Additionally, electronic records can be easily shared between healthcare providers, improving communication and ultimately leading to better patient care.
