Parent-Teacher Communication- Strategies for Effective Parent Inclusion & Engagement
A smooth flow of communication between the teacher and students and between the teacher and parents is critical for maintaining a positive learning environment (Adams et al. 62). Therefore, my communication plan will include scheduling regular conferences with each student’s parents to discuss how the child is doing academically, socially, and emotionally. These conferences allow parents to ask questions, voice their concerns, and get to know the teacher better. They also provide an opportunity for the teacher to get to know the parents better and gain insight into the child’s home life (Adams et al. 62). I plan to regularly send home a newsletter or update to parents about what’s going on in the classroom, upcoming events, and any other important information. A diary or daily log that the student brings home each day for parents to sign is critical (Epstein 48). For instance, the teacher can write a summary of what was learned that day in class, homework assignments, and anything else that needs to be communicated. Students can also be encouraged to write a brief note to their parents about their day.
The plan includes an open-door policy for parents to come in and observe or help out in the classroom as often as they would like. Parents can also be invited to join in on field trips and other special classroom activities. For example, the plan could be to have an open house at the beginning of each school year and a few other times throughout the year, such as during parent-teacher conferences. The plan will include scheduling regular conferences with each student’s parents to discuss how the child is doing academically, socially, and emotionally. The plan to have a positive and professional relationship with each student’s parents is critical. This can be done by maintaining regular communication, respecting and understanding each family’s situation, and always keeping the child’s best interests at heart. In conclusion, a good communication plan is vital for the success of any classroom. By including several different methods of communication and being flexible to adjust the plan as needed, the teacher can ensure that everyone’s needs are met.
