Question One: Advantages of the Organizational Structures Discussed In the Readings

Simple Structure

A simple organizational structure is highly informal, with task coordination completed through direct supervision. A high level of task specialization characterizes it and has few rules and regulations (Dess et al., 2021). Functional Structure

The functional structure brings together specialists into functional departments. Even though the department has specialized functions, corporate-level coordination is controlled from the top (Dess et al., 2021). A centralized system pushes members to pursue the organiorganization’stives. Besides, specialized departments pool technical and managerial talent into a single department, allowing efficient management.

Divisional Structure

A divisional structure is organized into products, markets, or projects. One of the advantages of the divisional structure is that it allows for separating strategic and operating control of different departments (Dess et al., 2021). Divisional managers focus on improving products and projects within their departments, while corporate leaders focus on organization-wide issues. Such structuring allows the company to respond to changes quickly.

Question Two: The Organizational Structure the Organization Uses

I worked in a local retail store that used a simple structure. The store owner also doubled as the manager and was constantly present at the business premises to ensure everything went well. The owner also coordinated many of the day-to-day tasks and other corporate issues. However, there was a supervisor to whom the manager would delegate some tasks.

Question Three: Other Structures That Might Allow Effective Operation

Considering the changing HR needs, the store may use an innovative structure to operate more effectively. A creative organizational structure tends to be less hierarchical than traditional structures (Šerifi & Dašić, 2012). In some cases, the model does away entirely with hierarchy. Instead, members are encouraged to embrace advanced communication and interaction to foster team spirit. Also, a team structure may come in handy. For this, members are encouraged to be highly professional in certain areas. Overall, high-level communication and interaction are encouraged.
