An Organizational Situation where Silence would be the Unethical Choice

            In some situations, communication is the best way to promote an ethical organization. An example where silence would be the unethical choice is a scenario where an employee has noticed that their colleague is misusing organizational resources. Say, for instance, if an accounting clerk discovers a case of embezzlement in the company books, it would be unethical for them to be silent about it. It is important to promote a culture of integrity and honesty, and this can only be achieved if the employee is ready to share the information with the rest of the organization for change to be made in its management. In this case, the employee will be a whistleblower. A whistleblower is a person who brings to light unethical actions taking place in an organization (Griffin & Moorhead, 2011).

Comparing Organizational Cultures

            Two related and competing global companies are Samsung, Inc. and Apple, Inc. These two companies produce and sell smartphones and related products. One thing that is different between the two companies’ cultures is their focus on innovativeness. Apple promotes an open culture of innovation. It promotes the development of new technologies through its team of engineers and technology experts. On the other hand, Samsung is known for picking up what is working within the market. The company has been sued for violating Apple’s patents. Apple, Inc.’s communication strategy is one of the indicators of its innovative culture. Whenever the company launches a new product, it openly communicates to the customers the company’s achievements and introduces the new features it has been able to develop. This is an indication that the company cares about the market’s feedback because it strives to make its developments as open as possible so that people can contribute their feedback on the company’s developments.
