Organizational Communication

Organizational Communication

Communication is always a key element in any successful business. This is especially important in healthcare. Staff needs to communicate with management, patients need to communicate with staff, and all parties must be able to communicate effectively. There needs to be a well-organized communication system in place to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. For communication to be effective, both parties must have the opportunity to be heard, tasks delegated and assigned appropriately, along with the desired outcome or solution specifically stated and understood. Many communication barriers arise because of miscommunication, misinterpretation, and misunderstanding of the desired result. As the text says, “Communication is the real work of leadership” (Burns, 2012.) The most effective leaders listen and observe before they communicate. Healthcare product is service to its patients, service from its providers, and service to the community. By utilizing and implementing effective communication methods, the healthcare organization’s performance can best benefit its patients, who are most affected by the services offered and provided.

Emory HealthCare in Atlanta, GA, implements a communication system that allows patients to provide feedback on the service they received, the type of care administered, and thirties-experience”. This f”edback allows the healthcare facility to provide quality care better and take both complaints and compliments into account when structuring additional services, such- as transportation to dialysis patients and coordination of treatment services for those with multiple morbidities – such as hypertension and diabetes, limiting patient confusion when they attempt to coordinate their treatment options. The assistance provided by the care coordinators reduces stress and helps patients with time management for exchanging information and making informed decisions about their care. In addition, updates and reminders are added to the “Patient “ortal,” allowin” additional interaction and communication sharing over the Internet in a secure and time-saving manner.
