Organization Evaluation – Banner Health

Organization Evaluation – Banner Health

Banner Health is a non-profit organization in the US that focuses on health benefits and coverage services to the community in the provision of health services. The healthcare group has its headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. It operates 28 hospitals in the United States and several specialized facilities in California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Nebraska, and Wyoming. It offers several services, including family clinics, medical equipment services, a nursing registry, home care, and family clinics. The organization also offers specialized services such as rehabilitation, behavioural health, multiple-birth deliveries, heat care, and organ transplants. To offer these services, the organization has programs like obstetrics, rehabilitation, surgery, paediatrics, and medical imaging (Bilton, 2019). This outstanding capacity allows Banner Health to provide health care services in different states of the US. It allows patients to be offered affordable services through the use of modern technology. The organization has also come up with several strategies in its preparation to meet the healthcare needs of people.

Regarding the readiness of Banner Health to meet the needs of the people in the next ten years, the organization has adopted several programs that ensure an effective provision of health care services. Some of the adopted programs are aimed at increasing access to healthcare facilities by patients. For instance, the organization has adopted modern and practical technology in the medical system to guarantee healthcare to patients (Boynton et al., 2014). Modern technology allows healthcare departments to easily disseminate patient experiences and other relevant information. The preparedness of the organization in the digital era is shown by the use of electronic medical records by healthcare professionals, which show laboratory results, diagnoses, and other significant information. Therefore, the use of modern technology by medical staff in Banner Health shows how it is prepared to meet the healthcare needs of patients in the next decade.

Besides, some of the programs adopted by Banner Health focus on the aspects of quality, cost, and population health management. This implies that the organization is focusing more on value instead of volume. Doing so minimizes costs while improving the quality of services offered. The organization is thus getting rid of the mentality of being compensated for any healthcare services offered and adopting a structure in which medical staff are responsible for effectively taking care of patients. This will ensure that the organization meets the healthcare needs of organizations in an environment where the cost of care is increasing both inside and outside the hospital setting.

Even though Banner Health has come up with effective programs that will meet the healthcare needs of people in the next decade, there is a need for a strategic plan to address issues related to network growth, nurse staffing, resource management, and patient satisfaction. The organization needs to expand to serve more states in the United States. To achieve this, the organization has to collaborate with other non-governmental organizations to come up with strategies that will ensure most US citizens access quality healthcare. However, collaboration alone is not enough since the organization needs to be aware of competitors in the health system and develop strategies for ensuring healthy competition. The involvement of the organization in activities that promote unhealthy competition is likely to create a bad image of the organization among US citizens. One strategy that will ensure healthy competition is through its participation in community social responsibilities. This will also act as a marketing tool that will promote the growth of the organization.

The organization also has to ensure adequate nurse staffing since nurses play a critical role in healthcare. This can be ensured through the regular hiring of qualified nurses. Also, the organization can increase the number of qualified nurses by assimilating nurses who have just graduated from tertiary institutions. The organization can then train the assimilated nurses to effectively execute their tasks. However, the organization should not just focus on hiring and training nurses. It should also look for a way of keeping the nurses by motivating them. This will help improve nurse staffing.

Patient satisfaction is also a key issue in any healthcare system that Banner Health has to consider. The organization can ensure patient satisfaction by coming up with strategies that allow patients to give their experiences and rate the services they are offered. Currently, it uses telemedicine to facilitate interactions between physicians and patients. The healthcare professionals working for Banner Health can learn from patient experiences to improve patient satisfaction.

Moreover, the organization needs to ensure effective resource management to meet the needs of the patients. Both financial and human resources have to be managed effectively for the smooth running of the organization. Financial resources can be managed by cutting down on unnecessary expenses. The organization can also create an environment in which the employees do not demand higher salary increments to cut costs. This can be done by making the employees focus more on the quality of services offered than how they would be compensated for the services they offer. Besides, human resources can be managed by ensuring that the employees are fully satisfied with their respective jobs. This can be done by regularly awarding employees based on their work.

Several issues are likely to affect aspects of the strategic plan. For instance, the use of modern technology will predispose the organization to cyberattacks in the future. Modern technology involving the use of online services predisposes several organizations across the world to cyberattacks. This may lead to public information about patients seeking services from Banner Health. Patient satisfaction is expected to decrease when the public accesses information that patients consider confidential when giving out. As a result, patients would not readily give out sensitive information to healthcare professionals in the future.

One possible model that can be effective in implementing the strategic plan for Banner Health is the goal-based strategic planning model. This model is suited for the organization since it works from the future to the present. This implies that the model can help Banner Health meet the healthcare needs of patients in the future since it can predict what is likely to happen in the future. The model also analyzes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of an organization, thus ensuring that every strategy an organization puts in place is critically analyzed (Elliott et al., 2017). Therefore, Banner Health can use this model to develop strategies that improve the quality of healthcare services.

Overall, Banner Health has shown good progress over the years and should only work on specific issues to meet the healthcare needs of citizens in the next decade. The use of modern technology shows how the organization is ready to meet the healthcare needs of people in the future. However, the organization needs to develop strategies that address network growth, nurse staffing, resource management, and patient satisfaction issues. Even though issues such as cyberattacks are likely to arise from implementing such strategies, the use of the goal-based strategic planning model can help ensure the effective implementation of the strategies.
