Nursing Theory Framework

Nursing Theory Framework

“Knowledge as a component of the socio-cultural orientation basic conditioning factor enhances the prevention of hazards” by Jacqueline Fawcett is the foundation used to describe the framework for nursing knowledge. This concept is derived from the Dorothea Orem self-care deficit theory. For a patient to promote good health, it is imperative for a patient to have an effective knowledge of health and self-care support. This concept describes five main components of knowledge in nursing. These are philosophy, meta paradigm, empirical indicator, and conceptual model theory. Each part of this nursing knowledge is complete in its capacity within a larger structure. Orem’s theory states that the patient, other persons, and their environment influence each other (Alligood, 2013). Self-care human behaviour can be altered by a community’s socioeconomic and cultural orientation, such as age, income level, education, employment, health care provided, and physical and mental health. For constant management of good health, a patient needs education and effective performance of self-care actions. To develop these self-care actions, it is important to provide person-centred interventions and education (McCormack and McCance,2019).

For instance, to prevent complications associated with heart and optimal health, it is imperative to effectively educate the patient on self-management techniques and reinforce the need to strictly abide by self-care. Heart failure self-care is the process by which patients actively make decisions regarding managing the associated signs and symptoms to prevent complications and maximize the treatment outcomes. Despite the known heart failure self-management strategies such as physical activity, eating healthy diets, and reduced or no cholesterol intake, among others, patients often experience some challenges such as negative experiences with the illness, depression, anxiety, poor physical functionality, and lack of social support. Patient education on physical activity, which is the primary determinant of cardiorespiratory fitness, will not only help prevent heart failure-related complications but also prevent the development of other non-communicable diseases (Sedlar et al., 17). I believe that healthcare providers are competent enough to effectively roll out a heart failure self-management plan that will help in the prevention of related complications.

Question

Nursing theory framework

In the lecture for the week, a theory was identified. “Knowledge as a component of the socio-cultural orientation basic conditioning factor enhances the prevention of hazards” is a theory from a major nursing framework.

Nursing theory framework

  • Identify the framework and provide an example of how other applications of this theory may occur in nursing practice. For example, you may say that education may enhance the reduction of free-throw rugs in an elderly person’s home which will prevent falls.
  • Tie the concepts together by clearly defining them and how they could be measured.
  • Find an instrument, survey, or tool in the literature that could be used to measure the concept. For example, if you are measuring pain, you might use the Faces Pain Scale-Revised, at the following link: https://www.iasp-pain.org/Education/Content.aspx?ItemNumber=1519
