Navigating Social Work Levels= Integrating Policy Practice into Micro, Mezzo, or Macro Roles

Navigating Social Work Levels= Integrating Policy Practice into Micro, Mezzo, or Macro Roles

Macro, mezzo, and micro social work are all said to promote human well-being and social justice, with special attention paid to communities that are considered vulnerable. Whereas all these levels are highly important, I see myself practicing at the macro level of social work. At this level, I will be able to take a broad view of systemic causes of such issues as social justice at the large-scale state, community, international, and national levels and also develop interventions that will address these systematic causes (Cassella, n.d). I would like to work with a non-profit or governmental organization to design and implement targeted campaigns against such large-scale social issues as racial or gender discrimination, socioeconomic inequalities, or injustices observed in the criminal system.

I can involve policy practice in my desired career by advocating for the rights of vulnerable communities. This would mean taking an active role in political and social actions that strive to ensure that every individual has equal access to services, resources, opportunities, and employment needed to meet their needs. Even though one does not get to interact with clients directly at the macro level, these individuals can also feel the actions taken at the macro level. For instance, if I advocate against racial discrimination and take part in such actions as ensuring equal employment and housing opportunities, then there will be reduced incidences of housing needs among a target group of people who have been denied their basic needs. The macro-level of social work eventually builds communities that are stronger and can provide a better quality of life for individuals living in these communities. I can also involve policy practice in my desired career by working closely with individuals at the micro and mezzo levels of social work and ensuring proper and well-informed research is conducted to meet individuals’ exact needs.
