My Nursing Philosophy
The “Management of Care and Professional Issues” course has greatly impacted my nursing philosophy. My nursing philosophy is to offer patient-centered and quality care to patients. This course has outlined the various ways of providing integrated, cost-effective care through collaboration, supervision, and coordination with other healthcare team members. Caring for patients is mandatory to ensure patient satisfaction and better quality. I have learned that in order for me to give the best care to patients, I need to work collaboratively with my colleagues. There will be conflicts time and again, but by finding the best ways to resolve these conflicts and being united by the common goal of providing the best care for the patient, it will be possible for us to work together, regardless of differences in ranks and disciplines.
Delivering quality care that is patient-centered will require me to respect the values and needs of the patient and understand that every patient is unique. By understanding that cultural, religious, and spiritual differences, among others, exist, I will be able to meet the individual needs of patients. Living by my nursing philosophy will also require me to work collaboratively with other professionals as well as the patient and their families and friends. I have learned the value of incorporating patients and their families in such things as the plan of care, and therefore, to increase patient satisfaction and empowerment, it will be important for me to work collaboratively with them as well as with other professionals. By finding mentors who will guide me on the care of patients as well as on other important things related to patient care and personal care, I believe that I will be able to make an easier transition into the workforce.
