My Educational and Career Goals
My educational goal as a BSN student is to obtain nursing competencies and theoretical principles that guide nursing practice. As a future nurse, my career goals include providing optimal patient care, being a health advocate, and participating in clinical decision-making processes. I also intend to use nursing principles and knowledge to make positive community changes by engaging in community health promotional campaigns. My pursuit of nursing was informed by my desire to make healthy community changes. Living in a community marred with several healthcare issues, my desire to make changes in the community drew me to pursue the course. As Nilsen et al. (2020) report, nurses are vessels for making positive changes in their communities. I would not, however, describe my choice to pursue nursing as a calling. This is because it was informed by my observations rather than an innate desire for nursing roles.
