This was particularly helpful because of the use of real-world examples to illustrate concepts. The only recommendation for improvement is to take more time when explaining the specific ideas presented. Overall, great job!”

I found your video well organized; I enjoyed your presentation style, which made me stay tuned until the end. A possibility of improvement could be to provide a summary of the content at the end to highlight key points. Keep up the great work!

1d. Written reflection summary of your Phase 1 experience

Completing Phase 1 of my Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) has been an enriching journey that has strengthened my professional presence and mindfulness. One of the essential activities of this phase was optimizing my LinkedIn profile, which contained a clear summary and professional profile that included concise career goals and my Nursing competencies. Moreover, I also concentrated on mindfulness by paying attention to self-awareness while creating a professional brand; my profile has captured a dedication to learning and compassion in patients.

Joining a professional community has numerous benefits, particularly for an MSN nurse navigating graduate education and career development. Joining professional bodies like the American Nurses Association (ANA) or Sigma Theta Tau will help me access resources, networking opportunities, and research materials that I can use to improve my practice. In these communities, I will have access to the latest information in health care and the latest standards in practice to improve patient care results.

To foster professional growth, I plan to actively connect with experienced MSN nurses who can mentor and guide me. I will use social media platforms to connect with other nurses and attend virtual conferences and nursing webinars to increase my nursing connections. Engaging with experienced nurses will help one gain real-life experiences encompassing practice at the ANP level, different leadership approaches, and career advancement opportunities. Moreover, by giving peer feedback to others through GoReact, I will enhance my communication and teamwork skills.

In summary, Phase 1 has ensured my awareness of professionalism and membership in the nursing association, as well as my portrayal of myself as a graduate nurse seeking mentorship. This effort will assist me to develop into a more competent, confident, and accomplished advanced practice nurse.

PHASE 2 – CPE ACTIVITY EVIDENCE AND TASK DELIVERABLES

FDM1: Social and Emotional Intelligence Table

Task 1: Social and Emotional Intelligence (SEI) Table

Social and Emotional Intelligence (SEI) Power Skill SEI Skill Sets Scenario
Self-awareness

Patience, Confidence As a healthcare provider, I frequently interact with patients experiencing stress due to their health conditions. I practice patience by actively listening to their concerns and reassuring them that they are in a safe space. Confidence is also crucial in building trust—patients rely on my guidance, and demonstrating self-assurance helps them feel secure in their treatment plans.
Self-management

Time Management, Self-Care One has to be strong in organizational skills to manage multiple patient cases a day. I focus on time-sensitive tasks, meaning I attend to critical patients first. Self-care practices help me to stay in peak performance. These practices include taking short breaks, doing mindfulness exercises, and setting boundaries to keep myself from burning out.
Interpersonal communication

Active Listening, Relationship-Building Through listening to a patient’s problems and responding empathetically, I enhance communication with the patient and develop trust; thus, dialogues are made open. By supporting my colleagues and working collaboratively to improve patient care continuously, I hold strong professional relationships in teamwork.
Executive function

Decision-Making, Adaptability One complex case was a patient who was not able to take medication due to financial constraints. Rather than just reinforcing compliance, I had taken an active role by working with partners to obtain financial assistance for the patient. This demanded critical decision-making with flexibility to ensure the best patient care.
Social awareness  Empathy, Cultural Competence I remember once treating a patient whose cultural beliefs were opposed to the proposed treatment plan. I didn’t dismiss their concerns; on the contrary, I facilitated open communication and informed them of alternative possibilities that would align with their values while still providing effective care. This was a valuable experience because it highlighted the necessity of cultural competence in nursing practice.

Response to Leah

Your discussion about social and emotional intelligence (SEI) in nursing would be quite insightful. I agreed with the rationale for the changes and impacts on patient and interprofessional collaboration.

Response to Christina

Impressive work in describing the relevance of professional etiquette, self-identity and emotional intelligence in nursing. Your impression of how these skills are essential in patient care is well-expounded. To enhance your reflection, incorporate a case or an incident in the clinical environment where these attributes are applied.

2c. Written reflection summary of your Phase 2 experience

Phase 2 of my Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) provided valuable insights into how Social and Emotional Intelligence (SEI) Power Skills can enhance patient care and workplace relationships. By practising self-awareness, I noticed the need for patience and confidence when handling distressed patients. Self-management skills like time management and personal care enabled me to balance several tasks and responsibilities without undermining my health.

Further, interpersonal communication was necessary, and I understood that active listening is crucial in building trust with patients and other healthcare workers. Therefore, such skills as decision-making and adaptability helped me handle some issues, such as dealing with patients with financial hardships and getting the proper treatment. Further, social awareness helped me develop empathy and cultural psychology, making every patient feel important and valued.

In general, this experience further proved the importance of emotional intelligence in nursing. Therefore, when practising these SEI skills at the workplace, I will be able to embrace teamwork, enhance patient care response, and uphold patient-centred approaches.
