Moral Acquisition- What Can Go Wrong When Failing to Acquire Morals

Moral Acquisition- What Can Go Wrong When Failing to Acquire Morals

Morals influence people’s behaviors. The moral standards a person acquires throughout their lives dictate their behavior. According to Charles Darwin, evolution involves the survival of the fittest, meaning that the behavior of a species influences its ability to survive. These behaviors of the fittest species are picked up the longer a species survives, becoming more efficient (Newton, 2013). The same ideology applies in morals acquisition, which includes morals acquisition as passed through generations and moral acquisition from family and society through rewards; these morals are acquired to become part of an individual’s customs. Subsequently, in some instances, morals are not acquired, and thus, the behavior and customs of an individual become affected negatively, leading to unruliness and violence.

The lack of acquisition of morals contributes to various scenarios, and the basis of these scenarios is the influence on behaviors and customs. The lack of acquisition of morals influences behaviors, thereby influencing customs (Newton, 2013). Accordingly, cases of unruliness arise since the morals that govern a family and society’s conduct are not acquired by an individual. Accordingly, if society holds meetings at 6 pm every day, an individual might not attend because they are not aware of the moral rules of the society. Also, if people of a society are not allowed to speak when the leader is addressing them, an individual might be found shouting or laughing during the address because they are not aware of the moral standards of that society; hence, unruliness and chaotic behavior.

The other scenario resulting from the lack of acquisition of morals is an increase in violence. Subsequently, in scenarios where an individual has been taught that settling a dispute involves peaceful negotiations, an individual might turn to violence to dominate the argument. Consequently, violent cases increase, interfering with peace and harmony. In conclusion, moral acquisition occurs throughout an individual’s life. These morals become engraved in an individual and influence their behavior. Therefore, the lack of acquisition of morals contributes to unruliness and violence.
