Looking back on your life, what advice would you give to your former self?

Without a doubt, when I look back at my old self, especially during my teenage years, I firmly believe that if I had a more mature mind as I do now, I would have done more than half the things I need to do differently. Generally, like all teenagers, I struggled with the notion of peer pressure, anxiety and depression, and poor coping with bullying. With this knowledge in mind, it suffices to maintain that this paper will explore the advice that I would give to my old self when I look at my current situation and compare it with that of my former self.

Foremost, I would advise the former self to always pay attention to how I feel about negative peer pressure. In this case, if something does not feel correct concerning a situation, then it most likely is not suitable to go ahead with it, even though my friends are okay with it. Besides, by planning, I would be better placed to handle a situation where I would otherwise be forced to do something that I would personally feel uncomfortable doing—as such, planning ahead would bolster my understanding of how I would react or respond to diverse contexts. Undoubtedly, if my former self had had this advice, most of the mistakes that I made under the influence of peer pressure would have been avoided.

Besides, concerning the aspect of poor coping with bullying, I would have advised the old self to make sure that my parents or guardians are fully aware of the bullying that I face from some of the bullies at school or within the neighbourhood’s confines I live in. That first step would have been integral in ensuring that I do not suffer in silence and feel bitter and alone. I was not keen on telling my parents, so I mostly felt alone and kept to myself. With this notion in mind, it suffices to say that my old self should open up to my parents concerning the bullying I am experiencing as the first step to solving this issue.
