The time all technology stopped working

“What is technology? What does it entail? How important is it?” Way thought as she walked home. According to McCarthy and Wright 2004, technology can evoke emotions in people, arguing that “the felt-life of technology-toward engagement, enchantment, irritation, and fulfillment” are the various emotions evoked. It had been a long month, and she was struggling to keep up; not only had she gotten fired from her temporary job, but she had also been evicted from her home since some developers bought her building to create high-class apartments. She had been offered an apartment as though she could afford even a closet in the apartment to come. She laughed out loud at the thought. What had she done to deserve all this misery? Her phone vibrated in her pocket, and she fished in her purse to locate it. As she scrolled through it, she missed the big rock up ahead, tripping and falling on her face. Her knee was severely bruised, and she would need stitches. “ Just what I needed,” she thought as her attention was drawn back to the phone. Consequently, she noticed it was a spam message, which frustrated her more. She vowed technology was her enemy as she limped to the nearest hospital.

Subsequently, after her doctor’s appointment, she decided to walk by a bridge close to her home. She started thinking back to when she lost her job, which was technology’s fault. She had sent some inappropriate personal items to everyone at work, costing her job. Moreover, those items were meant to be a prank for her best friend, who would identify the humor behind them. Too bad for her; they brought misery instead. She blew out a breath she had been holding. As her mind wandered, it was brought back to her eviction notice. “Technology will displace us and create better room for people with more money than us to fill our slots!!” she thought bitterly. Later on, she thought of a world without technology; would it be better or worse? Suddenly, a shooting star crossed the dark sky, and she knew what her wish would be.

“I wish all technology would come to an end!! I wish the world would be technology-free!!” she shouted into the chilly night breeze. Accordingly, she left for her house and went straight to bed. The following day, she expected her alarm clock to wake her up, but there was no sound. She picked up her phone to check the time, only to find that it wasn’t working. She jumped out of bed and ran to her television with lightning speed. It wouldn’t turn on, and she figured a shower would do her some good. No sooner had she set foot in the water than she came out running; the water was cold. Thus, she decided to check the water heater, and there was no electricity. She got dressed and went over to her neighbor’s house to inquire about the source of the problem. The neighbor told her everything had changed last night, and they had to live stone age lives. Way couldn’t believe it, her wish came true!! She was ecstatic.

The reality now sunk in no technology meant a lack of power source, lack of electricity, and lack of technical devices. Moreover, even cars couldn’t work, and everyone was brought back to the old age period. They would now have to ride on animals to move over long distances, grow food, use herbs as medicine, and many other changes. Way loved the fact that all technology stopped working because it meant she could keep her home and protect her physical and mental health by being away from all technological gadgets. Finally, she got her answers on technology and its importance when forced to live without it.
