Leadership Styles

In the video provided, Winston Churchill was the most admired leader. As outlined in the video, Winston Churchill is identified as a charismatic leader. Charismatic leaders are passionate about their goals and often lead with natural compulsion at the workplace. A good example of a contemporary, charismatic leader, as identified in the video, includes Barrack Obama. I have chosen to describe Obama because his approach to leadership was firmly based on the compelling charm that always draws more followers (BlueKawaiiQueen, 2018). As such, charismatic leaders are often inspirational and visionary throughout, which helps organizations stay focused to achieve strategic goals. Winston Churchill, in this video, is most admired because, from a personal perspective, leadership should be innate—possessing natural charm and personalities to attract followers and empowering the subjects to be the best version of themselves.

Evidently, charismatic leaders care about their subjects as they often act as the true representation of people to the government or firm. As a contemporary leader, Obama represented the African American community in the US not only because he was familiar with leading people in the past but also because his natural charm and personality drew diversified social groups in the US with the hope of bringing an end to racism. As such, the marginalized groups found commonality with Obama, as part of the African American community, and because he greatly valued equality in the US—caring for the people. According to Zaccaro et al. (2017), as cited in Peter (2018), traits such as cognitive ability, extraversion, openness, social and emotional intelligence, social abilities, and problem-solving are common in leaders. Such characteristics displayed by charismatic leaders include seeking to solve people’s problems and voicing society’s problems.
