Journal Article Analysis On Climate Change

Journal Article Analysis On Climate Change

Climate change has been a cause of heated discussions, especially with the witnessed rise in air temperatures at five times the expected rate. For this reason, countries have come together to solve this environmental problem by signing treaties to monitor their industrial emissions. However, Russia has been reluctant to commit to reducing the greenhouse effect through the Kyoto Protocol. Recently, Russia has blocked attempts by the United Nations Security Council to mitigate the effects of climate change. Therefore, the Security Council draft resolution could not be rough since Russia is one of the council’s five veto-wielding permanent members and voted negatively towards the draft (Gladstone, 2021).

The article shows Russia blocking a draft resolution by the United Nations Security Council, which was under discussion for many months. Concerning our course and with a focus on climate change, Russia’s decision impeded combating the undesirable effects of climate change (Gladstone, 2021). Russia argued that positioning climate change as an international security threat was the wrong prioritization of problems brought to the Council’s desk. Blocking of the draft resolution thus takes us a step back in countering greenhouse gas emissions and saving the earth.

With the ongoing discussions on climate change and its effect on our environment, solutions are being suggested, and industrialized countries must comply with the rules set aside to govern their industrial emissions. All this is done to combat global warming and climate change. With the blockage of the United Nations Security Council’s draft resolution, which defined climate change as a threat to peace, there is a need for other bodies of the United Nations to take up the role and try to save the world from global warming and harmful climate change. We should all play our part in making our planet a better and more conducive environment for us.

Discussion – Using 300-350 words, write a brief discussion, in your own words, of how the article relates to the selected chapter’s Key Term. A discussion is not rehashing what was already stated in the article but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your experiences, thoughts, and opinions. This is the most essential part of the assignment.
