Example Knowledge of Employment laws. This is defined as the employee having a working understanding of federal and state employment laws impacting employment, safety, and union activity. This knowledge is needed before hiring because… When I compare the knowledge to the others below… The employee is able to apply the knowledge of employment laws when providing diversity compliance training to managers.
1 Knowledge of accounting principles. This includes understanding basic accounting rules and how to prepare accounting records. This knowledge is needed before hiring because accounting is among the most important activities in the supply chain because it dictates the proper handling of inventory and designing the supply chain process to eliminate waste and increase the responsiveness and flexibility of financial transactions across the supply chain. According to Taschner & Charifzadeh (2020), supply chain managers need to understand an organization’s financial position to plan properly and monitor and manage manufacturing processes throughout the supply chain. When I compare the knowledge to others below, it complements the other two because it creates a foundation for production, processing, and negotiation. For instance, production and processing are adjusted based on an organization’s financial capacity. Supply chain managers need to understand the money available to purchase raw materials. Accounting information also dictates the terms of a negotiation. For instance, a supply chain manager may request suppliers to give the organization more time to pay for the raw materials based on the organization’s financial capacity. The employee is able to apply the knowledge of accounting when calculating inventory and the organization’s ability to purchase required raw materials.
2 Knowledge of production and processing processes. This incorporates understanding the required raw materials, quality control considerations, and production processes. This knowledge is needed before hiring because the supply chain process revolves around activities in the production and processing process. Therefore, a supply chain manager needs to be aware of these activities and exhibit expertise in completing them. When I compare the knowledge to the knowledge of negotiation practices and the knowledge of accounting principles, this knowledge is more important because it creates a foundation for the supply chain process based on how well activities are completed. The employee is able to apply the knowledge of the production and processing process when overseeing the manufacturing process that converts raw materials to final products.
3 Knowledge of negotiation practices. This includes understanding the negotiation tactics to use in different situations to negotiate contracts with suppliers and customers successfully. This knowledge is needed before hiring because negotiation dictates a company’s ability to secure contracts with suppliers and customers. According to Kim & Mikaitis ( 2017), securing contracts with suppliers and customers dictates the success of the supply chain because, without raw materials and customers purchasing the final products, the supply chain cannot function hence the need to maintain a good relationship with customers and suppliers. When I compare this knowledge with the knowledge of the production and processing process and the knowledge of accounting principles, this knowledge supplements the other two because it guarantees the availability of raw materials for the production process and customers to improve the financial performance of an organization. The employee is able to apply the knowledge of negotiation practices when looking for new suppliers and customers.
