Intervention Presentation and Capstone Video Reflection

Intervention Presentation and Capstone Video Reflection

Hello. My name is Telcy Muna. I just completed my practicum with a patient, Jasmine, who has anxiety. Today, I will discuss the approved intervention, share feedback from Jasmine and her family, and reflect on professional and personal growth in this capstone project. The main aim of the intervention I have designed is to achieve a comprehensive intervention that targets Jasmine’s anxiety, improves her quality of life, and provides her with sustainable coping mechanisms. By applying evidence-based approaches, using healthcare information technology, and coordinating care, I intended to provide a comprehensive approach to treating Jasmine’s anxiety. Additionally, I will focus on the specific components of the intervention, demonstrate the positive outcome the intervention had for Jasmine and her family, and show how this course has impacted my development as a baccalaureate nurse. Also, I will consider the facts that I have realized and how this project has prepared me for further nursing practice.

Let’s First Look into the Patient and the Problem

Jasmine, a 32-year-old woman, encounters serious anxiety symptoms like constantly worrying, constantly moving, and inability to focus. Her anxiety has seriously damaged her daily life and relationships to the extent that she finds it almost impossible to operate normally at work or home. My intervention initiative was to help with the symptoms so that she could feel better and enjoy life more. I endeavored to use an evidence-based approach that included cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to equip Jasmine with the coping mechanisms that would enable her to manage her anxiety, lessen its intensity, and improve her emotional and mental health.

Now, Let’s Discuss the Intervention’s Details

The intervention fuses CBT and mindfulness approaches and is supported by technology. The CBT sessions dealt with the task of teaching the patient to catch up with the negative thoughts and changing them to more realistic and positive ones, as supported by Curtiss et al. (2021). This means that instead of only suppressing the constant worry, the technique helps individuals cope better with stressors. On the other hand, mindfulness techniques were included to awaken being in the moment and to provide a non-judgmental perception of emotions and thoughts. Techniques like deep breathing techniques, guided meditations, and progressive muscle relaxation were part of the intervention to help better cope with anxiety.

Increasing the intervention’s effectiveness included technology recommendations for smart apps for mindfulness exercises and progress trackers (Gál et al., 2020). Through these practices, accessible resources were provided to facilitate a daily mindfulness practice, which supported the continued learning of newly acquired. Moreover, I explained the medication regime in detail with a focus on describing prescribed medicines, possible side effects, and how the patient could manage these effects. This included teaching benefits, spotting for adverse effects, and providing recommendations for dealing with them if they occurred.

Also, the intervention covered several components aimed at making the patient an expert in practical methods and knowledge for managing their anxiety, which led to a general betterment in quality of life and well-being. Anxiety symptom management was achieved by a combination of therapy, technology, and medicine, and therefore, a comprehensive approach was followed.

Let’s Now Discuss Feedback from Jasmine and Her Family

I held several meetings with the family and the patient, keeping the channels of communication open. The patient pointed out that the intervention has greatly helped her cope with anxiety, noting that she experienced fewer panic episodes and has taken charge of her thoughts and emotions. Her family expressed that she seemed more composed and active in her daily life, which positively changed her overall behavior and relationships. The feedback emphasized the effectiveness of the bifocal approach because there was a clear demonstration of an improvement in both the patient’s mental health status and the family experienced the improvement in her well-being.

Concerning Evidence and Literature,

The intervention was informed by evidence-based practice, which is a result of research proving the effectiveness of CBT and mindfulness techniques in relieving anxiety symptoms and promoting general well-being. To begin with, a study by Hirsch et al. (2019) has presently shown the effectiveness of CBT as it enables individuals to identify and challenge negative thoughts about anxiety, which significantly reduces anxiety symptoms. Further, Schuman-Olivier et al. (2020) argue that mindfulness skills, like meditation and deep breathing exercises, can help relax the mind and improve emotional control; thus, symptoms of anxiety are reduced. These evidence-based strategies brought into the intervention are aimed at providing Jasmine with specific support that is grounded in up-to-date research evidence, thereby helping to make her path towards mental health recovery.

Let Me Now Delve into the Use of Healthcare Technology

In empowering therapy, I utilized telehealth services to dispense remote sessions that were flexible in the process to help patients meet their scheduling obligations while maintaining continuity of care, as noted by Gajarawala and Pelkowski (2021). Moreover, I integrated mHealth technologies, a mindfulness app, and wearable devices that were helpful in monitoring the patient’s progress outside the sessions. These techniques not only eased the ongoing contact but also allowed making immediate changes to the treatment plan according to feedback and emerging necessities. Through healthcare technology, we have been maximizing the delivery of care and increasing and easing access to therapy. Additionally, the smooth combination of telehealth and mHealth solutions points out that technology can enrich various components of traditional treatment methods whereby people affected by anxiety can be actively involved in their therapeutic journeys and ultimately achieve desired outcomes in managing the symptoms.

Notably, Health Policies Influenced the Planning and Implementation of My Capstone Project.

Accordingly, the intervention was devised with utmost care in compliance with the nursing practice standards and healthcare policies. The Nursing Practice Act served as a device that highlighted the roles and responsibilities involved in the nursing care delivery for Jasmine. Compliance with this regulatory framework implies that team members know what they can do and that role allocation is clear, resulting in efficiency and clarity.

Additionally, compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was essential to guarantee the privacy and confidentiality of Jasmine’s medical data. By the HIPAA rule, the practicum abided by the ethical standards and maintained the trust between Jasmine and the healthcare team (Edemekong et al., 2022). Moreover, our discussions were backed up by experience from the Affordable Care Act, which helped us to choose the right healthcare coverage options and understand insurance and finances.

By applying these regulatory and legislative frameworks to the intervention procedure, it became possible to deliver quality and patient-centric healthcare. By implementing existing regulations and standards, we enhanced the setting suitable for patient improvement, and a good balance between ethical principles and legal proceedings was maintained. Our faithfulness in healthcare policy is not only a tool that ensures smooth execution but also a show of dedication to patient-oriented care that adheres to the regulatory framework.

I Would Now Like to Discuss the Capstone Project Outcomes and Predictions.

The intervention exceeded the initial expectations, which can be seen in the fact that Jasmine was able to handle her anxiety symptoms more than she did before. Her encouraging words affirmed the impact of the program on mental health and the process of personal growth. Furthermore, the application of healthcare technology smoothed out the delivery of services through a demonstration of their ability to improve patient care and increase equality in access to mental health services. It is logical to conclude that these outcomes approve the intervention, which can also be applied to a broader spectrum of the population struggling with identical challenges. Accordingly, the project can be considered a viable solution to the problem of the stigma and inequality of traditional mental health services.

Looking at Personal and Professional Growth,

Attending this project has been a truly life-changing experience that stimulated my professional and personal development. I acquired the requisite competence which focuses on evidence-based practice, whereby research findings are integrated into clinical decision-making. It has been an outstanding experience for me to engage in interdisciplinary teams. Essentially, this interaction has contributed to my understanding of holistic patient care, which involves collaboration with other professionals to address complex health problems. Consequently, I recognized that using healthcare technology has become my strength both in adopting innovative tools for optimizing patient outcomes and smoothing out care delivery. On the other hand, the local poverty-related events have taught me to be a more ethical and professional caregiver who delivers care with compassion and empathy. It is undeniably fulfilling to see how Jasmine’s health status has improved notably, and thus, my determination to continue nursing as a way of reaching out to more people is reassured.

In summary, the present practicum is an indispensable stage of my nursing education, which has had the most crucial impact on my attitude toward patient care. The intervention implemented for Jasmine not only resolved her anxiety issues but also served as a teaching moment for personalized patient treatment for all-around wellness. Access to Jasmine’s family’s impression of how I conducted my clinical practice will be precious. It will be like a compass guiding me to become a more professional practitioner. To conclude, I will serve as an advocate for evidence-based practice, work closely across disciplines, and offer patients the necessary attention and sympathy. Now embarking on the next step of my nursing career, I am enlivened by the sheer impact the experience has had on me. As a result, I will persevere and remain committed to the professional advocacy of the well-being and holistic health care of the people I serve.

Thank you for watching.
