Information Exchange

Information Exchange

When the pandemic struck, it forced us to minimize contact and physical meetings. I was also taking some classes at the time, and we had pending group projects. We used Zoom as a medium of communication and meeting to attend the class and handle our group discussions.

Zoom was a preferable medium because it is freely available and easy to use. I realized with Zoom that we had the main classroom area where the instructor would conduct the entire class and small breakout rooms where the instructor would place us for our group meetings. In addition, the instructor could also move from one group to another to check on each group’s progress and assist where required. The group meeting assistance of the instructor was needed since they intended to conduct a simulation exercise without a specific answer. The instructor would thus follow the reasoning behind the decision and offer insights based on the criteria.

Similarly, we used Zoom due to its integrative capacity with other tools. For instance, the instructor used it with the whiteboard while we also used PowerPoint slides. It had the same effect as being in a physical class since the instructor would write as they explained concepts, just as in classes. The students would also ask questions by writing to the whole class or directing it to a specific person. For example, we communicated via Zoom text on who should respond to the particular questions without the instructor noting. The platform enabled us to share progress and discuss just as a physical meeting would occur.
