Hypothetical Health System

Hypothetical Health System

The Bismarck Model is the ideal model of healthcare that I would select, and it would cover the urban area. Unlike the current insurance industry in the US, this healthcare system will have an insurance plan that does not make any profits yet covers all citizens (Kos, 2019). People experiencing poverty will not be left out.

The health system’s mission will be to ensure that people do not fail to access care because of poverty. The vision will be to ensure health for all. The current COVID-19 pandemic has shown that discussing a disease will always favor the haves while the have-nots pay the price. Most deaths were reported among the poor living in urban areas. The deaths were also racially disproportionate. That said, the system’s vision and mission is to ensure that no one is left behind and that all can access care whenever and wherever they need it.

The health system would incorporate physician assistants. This is because even though the target area is urban, the system will be run through the country; some parts are more rural than urban. States in the South, for example, where the population is low, sparsely populated, and with urban areas that cannot be compared to states such as New York and Miami, will need to be included. The physician assistants will work in these remote areas to bring quality health care to all persons (Blair, 2019). The physician assistants will have autonomy and not require the supervision of a licensed doctor. I believe giving the physician assistants this kind of autonomy will not only result in faster service delivery but also trust will be built between the community in which they serve as the assistants will be present at all times to offer healthcare services. In other words, rather than waiting for a supervising physician’s approval, an NP can make decisions faster, and the people the NP serves will have more confidence in seeking care as the facility will have qualified staff at all times.

Question

Hypothetical Health System

1. Describe your Hypothetical Health System

(a) its name, (b) whether it is rural, suburban, or urban, (c) and just a few other details to help us visualize this health system.

2. Vision/Mission and Incorporating APNs/PAs

Hypothetical Health System

As you begin to think about how APNs practice, ponder how they must work as a team with other healthcare members. As you consider your organization’s transformational change, you must realize that you have to think about the BIG picture and how to best serve your constituents, including patients, the public, collaborative healthcare members, payers, and board members, to name a few. With these points in mind, answer the following questions:
  1. What would be your health system’s mission or vision?
  2. Would you also incorporate physician assistants into your health system? If so, how would you envision using them? If not, why not?
