Understanding, Preventing, and Managing Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in many people around the world, with a prevalence of 38.4 million people in the US as of 2021 (National Diabetes Statistics Report n.d). Hence addressing the types of diabetes, risk factors, and the need for change in lifestyle in order to effectively prevent or manage it is vital. With the rising prevalence of obesity and sedentary lifestyles, teaching patients about the management and treatment of diabetes is a very important step toward greatly improving the quality of life and decreasing healthcare costs associated with complications (Arroyave et al., 2020): Health Topics.

Recognizing and Addressing Common Issues on Mental health

 Mental health problems such as anxiety and depression are increasingly being considered key components of health (Foulkes & Andrews, 2023). Therefore, addressing common mental health problems, their symptoms, and ways to overcome the problems is of great importance. Greater awareness and understanding of mental health problems should better enable patients to identify symptoms in themselves and others so that intervention and support occur far earlier at the community level (Foulkes & Andrews, 2023).

Common Conditions of the Skin and their Treatment

Conditions affecting the skin, like psoriasis, are more often than not misunderstood. It is therefore important to discuss these diseases, their etiology, and available treatments. Notably, Psoriasis is a chronic, non-infectious autoimmune disease characterized by the appearance of abnormal skin patches.

As the skin is important with respect to the patient’s general condition and his or her self-esteem, providing prevention and management information may enable the patients to seek relevant care and thus enhance their life quality (Inflammatory skin conditions: Eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis n.d). Psoriasis has no cure; however, there are different types of treatment available, including topical, light therapy, and systemic treatments. Following this, the topic is related to common health concerns and provides the patients with the opportunity to be more actively involved in their health management.

Introduction
In this assessment, you will choose the topic for a presentation that you will create for Assessment 6. You will play the role of a family practice office manager. Your office offers a 30-minute monthly educational session for patients. You have been asked to conduct next month’s presentation.

This assessment will allow you to keep your presentation in mind. You will use terms from different assessments, and you will be evaluated on the use and pronunciation of medical terms.

You have the chance to choose a topic that interests you. Select a topic (disease, condition, or procedure) where you can meet the required criteria. For example, you may want to focus on a digestive system disease. Other examples include diabetes management, coronary artery disease, and acne. These are examples only. Choose the topic of interest to you. Maybe you have a specific condition and would like to learn more about it, given all that you have learned about medical terminology throughout this course.
