Verizon Communications Inc.’s expansion to foreign countries exposes the company to various challenges, but it is worth considering due to its anticipated success. One of the potential challenges the company will experience is stiff competition from large telecommunication companies that have already established a solid customer base in different global markets. For instance, in Germany, which is the recommended region for the company’s global expansion, companies such as Vodafone have acquired a large market share due to their reputation for offering high-quality telecommunication services. Another challenge is strict regulations. According to DLA Piper (2022), Germany has strict regulations on distributing telecommunication services and requires any telecommunication service providers distributing their products and services for profit to notify the government. Therefore, Verizon Communication Inc. may undergo a thorough review, delaying the start of operations in the country.
The main anticipated success associated with global expansion to Germany is business growth opportunity and profit maximization from the 5G network. According to Eichhorn (2013), there is an increase in Germany’s demand for fast and affordable internet services. Existing telecommunication companies have not managed to meet the high demand, creating an opportunity for other network providers. Another anticipated success is acquiring a large market share because the company has an innovative culture enabling it to constantly improve its services and thus maintain high quality, which attracts more customers and creates customer loyalty. A large market share will also enable the company to increase brand awareness, maintaining a competitive advantage (Fang & Huang, 2016). Germany is also among the countries with many internet users, thus creating a large customer base for Verizon Communication Inc. and the possibility of generating a lot of revenue as well as experiencing a high growth rate.
