As globalization continues to create new business opportunities, new challenges continue to develop. One of the main factors that may limit a business’s growth in international markets is the availability of talent. Businesses expanding to new markets often experience many challenges in finding and attracting talent in the markets they choose to venture into (Hill & Hult, 2019). Therefore, many businesses intending to grow into the global market emphasize international mobility in their workforce.

International mobility refers to the willingness and ability of an employee to work in different international markets. Employees willing to work in the global market usually have to move, sometimes with their families, to a completely new environment. This can be quite challenging for these employees (Schwartz, 2011). Therefore, companies may have a hard time finding talented workers willing to travel to other countries and live there for months or years to serve a given company.

Emphasizing international mobility gives a business some security in terms of talent. Hiring employees willing to work in other locations will help the business maintain productivity in new markets, even when it is hard to find talent within the local markets. Additionally, a business that can maintain its talent in the process of international expansion has an easier time maintaining a uniform culture in its global organization. Therefore, it is reasonable for international mobility to be one of the capabilities businesses look for in their hiring processes.
