Executive Summary- Applying Network Theory to Enhance Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies

The network theory is an arithmetic branch that is concerned with the convenient modeling of networks. Such modeling is intended to evaluate transport’s impact on the economy. This theory reveals the modifications that are necessary for greater economic or social benefits. Some of the aspects that network theories highlight include transport infrastructure, connectivity to each other, reliability, resilience, impact on the economy, and support services (Sasidharan, Usman, & Ngezahayo, 2019). This summary should highlight the critical aspects of transportation as a sector and provide insight to the United States Secretary of Transport, Pete Buttigieg. When using the network theory, the analysis provides traffic that is generated by nodes, the flow along the links, the extent of connectivity and accessibility, the scope of a network, an association of the network along a route, and the influence that one place has on other locations within the route. The node is defined as a point in the transport network that can generate traffic. A link is the point of connection between two traffic-generating locations (nodes). The route is represented by numerous links (Żochowska & Soczówka, 2018). The functional attributes of links provide a hierarchy. The attributes include local streets, which provide access to adjacent land use, or trunk roads that connect highways to arterial roads. Networks of transport can be represented in tree, mesh, hub and spoke, or linear forms. The mesh network could have 37 vertices and 58 edges, which are the most in comparison to the other network forms. The linear, as well as hub and spoke, have the least number of vertices and edges, 17 and 16 (Żochowska & Soczówka, 2018).

The information obtained through a network theory should be utilized to improve the transport network. The most vulnerable infrastructures, nodes, and links should have security reinforced to improve their safety and reliability (Sventekova, Urbancova, & Holla, 2021). In addition, the infrastructure should be well maintained to ensure that different forms of transport can serve the population. Connectivity between different forms of transportation such as road and air, should be reliable and convenient enough to facilitate the fast movement of both goods and people (Lewis, 2020). Various ways of improving the different aspects of a transport network may touch on other critical infrastructures such as information technology and public health. The impacts that each CI has on the other should be assessed, and loopholes addressed immediately. For instance, forms of transport that cause excessive pollution may be regulated to safeguard public health. Thus, the network theory not only addresses the specific CI but also influences developments in other sectors due to interdependence.

Question

Choose a hypothetical or real-world leader who you seek to educate on your selected sector and network. You will write an executive summary in which you seek to both inform and influence this leader, explain what network theory is, and discuss how its use will be beneficial to the community, agency, or company for identifying risks and vulnerabilities and ultimately assisting this entity in developing mitigation strategies.

Executive Summary- Applying Network Theory to Enhance Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies

In the 1page executive summary, be sure to complete the following:

-You should demonstrate a clear understanding of what network theory is and what its benefits are.
You should clearly, comprehensively, and concisely explain the concept in your own words.
-You should make connections as to how it can aid community, agency, or company leaders in prioritizing limited resources, surfacing mitigation requirements, and compelling creative solutions.
-To make these connections, use real-world elements of your selected sector or network and employ realistic conditions and opportunities.
-It should be organized, clearly delivered, mechanically sound, and comprehensive in content.
-You have limited space, so do not provide any wordy, repetitive, or irrelevant filler material.
-If you mention sources or deliver content that is in any way derived from material or ideas that are not your own original thoughts, include proper citations.
